Some of the mistakes I learnt I was doing:
- Proper resource management, not spamming too many skills un-neccesarily.
- The arcane cloud just obliterates the rangers/mages, but you can't spam it, as it can hurt your own minions as well.
- Use the first 300 green essences on healers, use the ice blocks to create some safe zones.
- Your minions follow you, so always end each round near the healers so everyone gets healed up
- I put skele archers and mages up on the platforms with one healer, and two healers on the ground behind ice crystals.
- Certain enemies have better defences then others for different types; Like the axes work better for the ents, and the sword works great on the elves. I found the ice bolt works great against the dragons, since it slows them down making them easier targets for the mages/archers/myself.
I still have not completed it, however I feel like my next attempt will be either the final, or damn near the final one.
I'v put 30+ hours into the game so far, so I really don't mind putting in a few extra for this "event".
It really puts me off playing the game actually, I might not finish it... especially since when you die, you go back right to the start, losing 20+ min of progress.
I found the section to be a neat change of pace, though I thought it was too easy. On Hard++, of course.
I totally, totally agree with you on it being out of place. You really do get thrown in, plus I had to remap the hotkeys for Harnakon when I got to the fight. The whole pressing F9 to swap characters thing was horrible for me using a controller. Not to mention my laptop apparently requires me to hold shift before pressing it, for some odd reason.
But, to be honest, I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. It was an exciting final area, with a twist to prevent it from being a boring "oh no it's the big thing" kind of encounter.
Main reason I died the first time is because I took too long, I was horribly swarmed and killed from the harder waves coming so often. Your best bet is to rush it with your character to avoid reaching the hard waves. Also abuse the fire breath spell as Harnakon, you can slaughter all of the mages and archers in one or two blasts.
2nd time around I let my armors tank, put my mages/skeletons on the first ledge and healers up on that tiny ledge
RUSH for healers... makes all the difference, Arcane cloud was mentioned and that is your best friend.. first like 3-5 is just melee/mage/archers which can die in 2 clouds .. so swap over nuke twice and swap back ...
When trees/gryphons come.. get your axe out and jump at the trees (in their damage range) then turn around mid air .. this will cause you to get knocked back BEHIND them while your armors are tanking them.. hack away at the trees.... jump slash the gryphons... it never got harder than that other than the catapults but .. since the frail units are up on that ledge they never get hurt....
Honestly my biggest complaint isn't about that .. was the fact that the Elves were a JOKE and the final "BOSS" ..... ugh........the platforming to get to him was harder, thank god for Alternation portals.
and if you wanna rush, I recommend rebounding magic and 20 speed potions will do you good :)
