Kenshi

Good movies & anime, that remind you of the Kenshi Universe...
I've been trying to pin down a few movies or anime series that are reminiscent of Kenshi.
But Kenshi's style is so unique and original that no one movie comes close.
Besides obvious ones, like Mad Max or Afro Samurai what are some that get you in the mood for Kenshi?

Lisa takes place in a post apocolyptic world, where everyone and everything is trying to kill you or eachother in a giant wasteland. Not exactly same style but similar vibes though.

13 Assassins, those samurais who served their evil lord reminds me of rebel farmers cuz of their funny hats.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, mix of swordfighting to martial arts, roaming from places to places.

I haven't watched it myself, but someone mentioned Fist of the North Star in an old thread. What do ya think?

Another thread mentioned Steel Dawn (1987). :P It's kinda mad max without the guns. Catch a trailer on youtube.

Oh, and the game really reminds me of morrowind, with its dry lands and strange creatures. The style is so similar.

So something that is post-apoc, has medieval type wepaons + plus sweet sword fights, and weird creatures... basically. There's gotta be way more of this. :milliethinker:

As something american, I would also recommend The Bad Batch. A new movie that has a few elements of Kenshi. Mainly someone getting their arm and leg chopped off, and being aimless in the desert. In this post-apoc world. Also has Keanu Reeves (in a tiny role) and Jason Momoa as a cannibal.

Nice to see someone else who knows Desert Punk. Probably the only "silly" animated thing I really like. But yeah, it's probably one of the closest things. Although that is predominately set in a desert, whereas Kenshi has various biomes.

Here's a few more, don't know how they'll hold up on modern tv's.

Princess blade (general feel)
Samurai Assassin (1965 B&W) (ash wastes especially and feel)
Yojimbo (B&W) (early game) or Re-make
Lady Snowblood (slave start)
The Warrior (~2001) (Kenshi in nutshell)
The Blade (1 armed start)
Samuari 7 (imported start base defense)
Seven Samuari (import start base defense)
AfroSamurai
Badbatch (cannibal territory)
Highlander 2 for the small clip of their original world.
Bang Rajan (early base defense)

Couple of blind swordsman films... American ~christopher walken? Japanese ~ Zatoichi?

A few more Japanese black and whites from '60's whose names i can't remember.
A few more American '80's films Cannibals, desserts, post appocalypse, bunkers, fanatics, provocatively clad women and big hair etc. Bloodsplats ott like kenshi.

Trigun. There aren't many swords in it, but I would honestly be surprised if Kenshi wasn't influenced by it on some level.
