FSC Questions For Custom Start
I'm trying to make a custom start but I keep running into a couple walls, and search results aren't yielding any answers.

1. How can I apply the Force Race function to only one squad instead of every squad?

2. Is it possible to lock the gender a character spawns as, or is the only option making it's spawn chance 100?

3. How can I guarantee that a set number of the squad can spawn? I've seen a guide a long time ago that showed how to do this but for the life of me I cannot find it again.

4. Can the hunger multiplier be set so that you start out as malnourished?

Yes, to all of your questions as far as I know. I am rather new here, but have some small experience. Perhaps I can help?

Apply force race to a single squad - You will need to make a unique squad. plus make them a new faction (your custom faction or one that is not in the game)
Effectively a new squad of the new faction and new race.

Make spawn chance 100 percent. That effectively locks out the other gender

By setting your squad to 1 0f 1 or 2 of 2 or whatever of whatever (needs to be the same) example 5 of 5 or 10 or 10 or 190 or 190 whatever number you want, but make them both the same. In that way you will always get the number spawned that you want.

For malnourished I am not sure of the setting. I usually just copy the guy and his dog start, (since they are already malnourished) and then change them and name them and cloth them however I want.

If I am wrong I am sorry, but I think you can do this, and rather easily, give it a try and let me know if you have issues, I will try to help, but I think this will do it.

Thanks for the info. I've gotten both squad size to be pre-determined as well as having the malnourished to appear.

Although I think I'm still doing something wrong with getting the race and gender limitations to apply. While all characters spawn as the intended race and gender the option to manually change them when starting a new game is still available.

Also the Force Race function seems to only appear while in the game start tab, and applying it there overrides all squads. In the specific squads tab there is Race Override but this does not seem to lock out being able to swap races when a new game is started unlike how Force Race does. Additionally, when setting the gender spawn chance to 100 it also allows for it to be manually changed in-game similar to the above.

Ah, still some issues then. What would happen if you make a character of a new race, which only has one gender? There is a place on the left side of the file that specifies male and female meshes. If we remove the female mesh, then of course we can't get the female. Or the other way around if you prefer, by locking out the male by deleting the line for the male mesh.

This should also prevent changing the gender inside the character creation tool if it is unavailable it shouldn't be shown.

As to force race. I think it depends on the example we are using as a template. Goat Herders for example are only human and scorchlander, so the other races are locked out. Also unavailable in the creation menu.
Let me check something... be right back.

okay, It is a little involved. But lets take it slow.
1. Create a new race. (I started from the start area and made copies and named them something else. Like Wanderer start into Wanderer Shek Female Only start, then to squad, left click to highlight, then right click to copy. When you open the copy rename it Wanderer Squad copy to Wanderer Shek Female only. Inside the squad is the Leader listed as Wanderer. right click and make copy. open, then rename copy to Shek Female Only.
This is the character file I believe.

Go down to race area.
right click and copy and open and rename Shek Female Only.
On left side is a number of entries for male.
Remove all those mesh listings.
Some are rag dolls, some are skinny and normal and strong meshes.
Make sure all male meshes are removed.

Save and close and go back out to start area and do the FORCE RACE add,
Find your Shek Female Only race and add it.

Save and close all files until you are back out at the main game window in the FCS.

Go to race area.
Go to group area.
click add and find your Shek Female Only race and add it.

Oh, go back to start and change DISCRIPTION, :)
say something like Shek Female Race Only.
then save and close and start a new game,
Go to Shek Female Race Only and start

You should be locked to Shek Female Only and no other races should be available and the male mesh or model shouldn't be available either.

I have it and can post it on my steam page and give you a link if you like.

Okay, here is the URL : https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198000326790/myworkshopfiles/?appid=233860

Hope it helps, sorry, I didn't really know how to do it until I got in to the files, and then had some ideas on how to limit it, (make a race) etc, but hope it works and helps you get what you are looking for.

Take care,
-Teal :)

p.s. Oh, just copy the file out from the 233860 folder (those are mods you subscribe to and they can be found here...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\233860

Just copy the file out to your desktop and then open it, get the name and then rename (exactly as it is on the file inside) because the fcs has to have it exact. Then drop it in your mod folder, found here...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi\mods
and open it in the FCS.

:) You should be able to see what was changed and just follow back from the game start that is made. It goes back to squad and then to leader and then race.

Note all the missing male meshes on the race file for this race.
Oh, also this is ALL Copies of the original files. You don't want to change original files if you don't have to. But copies work perfectly fine. :)
Take care and have fun and happy modding!

Oh, I hadn't doing considered that. That's really clever. Are characters that are made this way still recognised by gender or do they fall in line with skeletons as genderless?

One last thing, how can I apply force race to specific characters? For context I'm trying to lock in 1 Greenlander and 4 Southern Hive Soldiers. When applying Force Race, say for Southern Hive Soldier it makes all 5 members southern hive soldiers. If I apply a Force Race tag for both Greenlander and Southern Hive Soldier it will allow all characters to be race swapped between those two categories.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty new to use the FCS.
Teal Apr 20, 2022 @ 7:24pm
Let me look into this, but I am guessing right now, we may have to create a race for each group, greenlander and one for the southern hive soldiers. Name them something different, choose a gender and get rid of the other one, (or keep both genders if you want)

The force race we may have to do inside the character file.
But this is all off the top of my head.
We'll have to look at it when we get into the files and play a little bit and see what happens.
:)

Let me look at this and get back with you tomorrow? I go into work, but will be back by early afternoon.
I'll look at it then and see if I can figure it out and then post, hopefully not later than 6:00pm or 7:00pm
:)

oh, what gender? All guys? Is that what you are looking for? Or all females? or greenlander female and male hivers?

Was aiming for locking in the greenlander as female but it's not a big deal if I can't. I think Hivers are genderless so it doesn't matter for them. The main goal is locking in the race so that they cannot be swapped manually when starting a new game.

I was planning on attaching a custom dialogue package to the hivers, so it'd be weird if the greenlander got set as the wrong character.

I appreciate the help, no rush, this is nothing urgent.

The Greenlander should be like doing the Shek female, so I don't think it will be difficult.
On the Hivers, you want Prince, Soldier and Worker? Or only one of these?

The Queen? (I haven't done a queen yet, though I have seen some mods that add her. Queens can be spoiler-ish, or 'Clean' as one of the mods says. Also There was one mod (you can look in the community mod pages and find all of these) That created a Princess, which was a Blenderized hybrid. I think the Prince body, or worker and the Queen's head. But anyway. Anything but the Queen I think I can find and figure out how to get a race specific and locked version.

You want names on these? Or a title that you change to a name that you choose in character creation?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make sure it is laid out how you like and not something different.

Where are you wanting them to drop into the world?
Teal Apr 21, 2022 @ 5:03pm
Okay, this is both interesting and a little frustrating.
It looks like the Shek Female Only succeeded because there was only one gender mesh in teh file and because there was only one race in the race list. (Since I made the Shek Female Only a group in itself)

So, with Two races I can set up the Greenlander female and take out the male meshes.
I can remove the hive group and the Shek, the Scorchlander, the Skeleton groups, in the races section, and put in the Hive Prince, the Hive Soldier and the Hive Worker and the Greenlander Female Only. Which gives us just the two races you want.

So, the difficulty lies in when a new game is launched and the character creation loads, we have the correct races. BUT, each of those entries, for leader, and second, third and fourth and fifth squad members is switchable.
I can make the leader a Hiver Prince, or a Worker, Or make the Leader Greenlander female and all the squad members greenlander females too.
So, it is NOT locking each character to the character file in the game start file.
Or they would be only what is listed in those single files.
It seems the character editor is saying, you want these two races? Okay, you can have any combination of these two that you want.
Which is NOT what we want, but still.
Perhaps I am not seeing something here.
It functions, but not exclusively as intended.

Anyway, I will post what I have and link to it and you can take a look and see if that is good enough. I will ask around on the forum and on the net and see if I can run across something to lock out the other selections and just list one choice for each character.

Maybe I can come up with something, but we shall see. I work over the weekend, but perhaps I will have time to try a few things and get back with you on monday?

I just had a thought about squads, like how the bonedog is never mixed up with the goats, or the leader. Maybe I can try something with the squads, maybe a separate squad for each race? I'll take a look tonight and let you know.
Back soon
Teal Apr 21, 2022 @ 6:55pm
Okay, squad changes didn't change anything. I tried making the Hivers animals, but of course that didn't work either. So, I went back to Greenlander and Hivers Races, the original game race for the Hive and had a Greenlander, a Prince and three Soldier Drones. (originally I had a prince, 2 soldiers and a worker, which i still think is cool, but the soldiers carry more fire power than the workers, so I opted for that instead.)

Anyway, it doesn't lock out the other choices when you make characters, but it does limit the races allowed for the playthrough.
Anyway, it's close, but not exactly what I was hoping for.
Hope it is still workable and fun.
Take care and heres the link :

Do not remove the female & male meshes. It causes crashes and on character creation the player gets and empty booth and they will probably think your mod is broken. To force gender just have all character templates in the squads be either 0 (male) or 100 (female).

You CAN choose for the race the single gender option, but that is always male.

We cannot really limit the player's choice on the character creation, as they can always swap races too. You just have to trust your subbers to use the gender you chose. You can put on the start description a mention for this so they know the start is meant to be played as this gender.

How about making three options for the dialogue? One option if all squad memebers are female, one if all male and one for mixed group?

Please do not make a player character a leader. It will make all the other characters in the squad always follow them. It gets really annoying after a while.
