I got to his tower and sent only my big-ass Shek bruiser upstairs to 1v1 him. My guy (Oron.. her, gal) is in all heavy crab armor and using a plank, so should be pretty bad combat + indoor penalties. Bugmaster is wearing a loincloth.
The fight was over in seconds. He ran at Oron, she swung at him twice right away, both landed and Bugmaster was on the floor.
Oron is up there but her base stats are not like Bugmasters. He's in the high 90's, Oron is low 80's and that's without all the equipment debuffs. Relly and truly, He should have at least kicked her around the room before Oron got lucky.
Unless the case is that 1.20 is only the highest value that bit is alloowed to display and combat speed can be much higher in actuality. Sometimes games work like that where just because the value reads as such, it doesn't actually mean that that's the highest or lowest the game will allow.
Combat speed is capped at 1.0 on the higher end, and 0.53 on the lower end.
One item with bonuses can make up for the penalties of another item.
Wielding weapons above your str/dex requirements will quickly bring down your combat speed to 0.53
cs matters more in group combat, not so much in 1v1 where you take turns attacking.
1v1 is outcome is more weighted towards attack skill.
The attack animation sequence is longer for a character with low combat speed, at least if blocked and wielding a weapon that is two heavy.
This can be put to your advantage. Then a character blocks an attack, both attacker and blocker are locked during the whole attack animation sequence.
A tank or cannon fodder character can lock a dangerous enemy in place during the the fight. Switching to Block mode can extend this further.
