So do cannibals....
Eventually eat the NPCs you put in their cages? I ran around and collected all the nobles from the Great Desert and put them in cages in cannibal camps and have been disappointed to find they're all still alive when I return. Is there something I would need to do to trigger the event?

Also, does the Traders Guild rally together a rescue force for them? I was delivering some more nobles to the cannibals close to the camp in Darkfinger where I had dumped Kana and Slave Master Ruben in cages. Over the horizon I saw the naked Kana come running at me, roughly toward World's End oddly. I knocked her out again and then discovered an entire group of samurai heavies and empire hooded guards fighting cannibals and running along the same path Kana had been running, with Slave Master Ruben, completely dressed but unarmed, in the group. Did that group of NPCs get together to rescue them?

When you left the zone that you left nobles at, the time for that zone would be suspended until you return to same place. So be stealthy while staying close to cannibal town and all you have to do is wait until they finally chop up the nobles.

I never seen rescue rally by trader guild or any factions except maybe southern hives after I kidnapped their queen. Some NPC could lockpick their way out of cage, so maybe Kana did that and happened to cross noble hunter at same time.

It's also possibly a bug/quirk of the raid system where a raid spawned on a non-dead named character as intended, however due to player activity character wasn't where they were suppose to be and game failed to flag them as in-dispossed and move to next raid leader.

Raid then follows standard ai behaviour once player is close enough to load it up and witness.

Yep, that is indeed what ultimately ended up happening. Should anyone have this question in the future, here are my observations.

I would advise that if you have multiple enemies that you want the cannibals to take, put each of them in their own cannibal camp. What happens is once a day or so, a lot of the cannibals start attacking their prisoners. They stop when one of the prisoners dies, throw him in the cooking pot and then leave the others alone for the next day. If one of the remaining prisoners is so damaged that he later dies from his injuries, they'll throw him in a cooking pot as well, and that does not count against the daily routine. So if you're like me and have six guys in a cannibal camp, it can take as long as six days for all of them to be eaten, depending entirely on how many of them die from wounds they suffered while being beaten while one of the other prisoners was being killed.

Also, I think that really was a rescue. It was a standard noble hunting party with a samurai heavy in place of the noble hunter. I think what happened is that they rescued Kana first and Kana just ran the hell out of there the moment she was freed. The rescue party all stayed in the camp until they had rescued Ruben, whereupon they followed the same path Kana did to escape. That was why Kana was alone and Ruben was in the middle of a party.
