Scrapyard Thievary
If you position yourself correctly beside the right locked weapon case and the battery bank and stealth. You will have all thieving access to both weapon displays, both shop counters, and even the round crate and the safe on the other side of the counter near Quin. The guard patrols through the shop do not spot you at all and you can easily acquire the best weapons with minimal effort.

I was just about to post this. I took a complete newbie, ran him around repeatedly putting things on corpses and stealing them again until his stealing was super high, then I parked him at the gate in a frequently raided outpost sneaking, until his stealth was high and THEN I worked up his lockpicking by getting him enslaved and undoing shackles over and over.

That was all in a couple hours.

Then I ran him straight to BDC and stole edge 3 weapons right out from under the noses of the guards. Later I deliberately ran around and annoyed the guards so they would hack his arms and legs off and he put on the stolen arms and legs.

So now he was a 3 str 5 dex thief with masterwork scout legs, masterwork steady and masterwork thief arm with a masterwork Old Bow II and edge 3 wakizashi and katana.

that all took me about 4 hours.

So now this single dude can go anywhere, sneak past anything and lockpick anything.

The point I am making is that if I had had to make enough industry to actually learn how to make edge 3 weapons through my blacksmiths churning through iron - that would have been serious work. Crafting really is a lot of work to set up and support.

This, was not work. This was cheesing the game. Making the best weapons come from cheesing the game is not an improvement, sirs.

Your changes nerfing crafting did not improve the game, they were completely counter to it.

or

the scraphouse needs smarter security ;o)

Yeah. Smarter security indeed. And it's way worse than that. I took a completely fresh character there and was able to steal with level 1 stats pretty easily.

Tying in another bug I had found but wasn't able to replicate it consistantly. I had loaded into the save and was able to hit pause before the NPC's loaded into the game. From the pause menu, I was able to loot everything around me without the worry of getting caught stealing due to them not being loaded in.

Edit: Replicate Consistantly as in, I had done it multiple times on that save game. But I haven't been able to repeat it on new save games. For that save-game, I had been using the special recruit Sadneil while my main character was running across the desert(Also a robot)

Things just need to be shifted around so you don't have blind spots that you can loot stuff from. That or add some extra security spiders near the current blind spots. The place is well lit and has lots of robots guarding, it just has blind spots where you can hide behind junk and magically reach over said junk to open boxes.

It hardly matters. My two stealth legged thief can steal things in plain sight.

That bug has been in game for literally years. :)

There are no consequences to theft, either, even if caught you will not be attacked. no stealth needed, just pick and loot right in front of the guards.

alright, so it's not no consequence, but the spiders don't do anything if they see you steal, and nobody responds to 'you got caught stealing' - if the patrolling bots see you in 'committing crime' state, they will attack you, but it's too easy to avoid.
