[.98.55] Characters also ditching Medical Kits and Splint Kits whilst ditching Sleeping Bags
Problem: When holding a sleeping bag near a base, the player goes to ditch resources in a medicrate. Any carried Medical Kits and Splint Kits are now also ditched. This makes party medics useless when they get home. Even more useless considering the bag should be kept anyway.

Tested by: placing and removing bag and kits to reproduce the same effect every time. Medic Kits and Splint Kits are not ditched when not carrying a sleeping bag. They are ditched though, when a sleeping bag is added to the inventory.

I don't know why ditching sleeping bags as resources was ever added anyway. It is the nightmare of every party leaving on an adventure to find the bag carrier was naughty and wanted to have a lighter load when you weren't looking. Shouldn't it only be applied to someone working on a medical bench? and for crafting/building materials and food? It has to be manually added to any character's inventory and it's a sure bet they are meant to be carrying it...

Aka, they are pretty bad at handling multiple of the same storage.

Just before leaving your outpost make sure job button is switched off. Then grab the stuff you need for your exploration. They won't ditch stuff when job button is off ;o)

Yea, I make sure my main adventuring group has jobs turned OFF as that stops them from ditching resources, then when I get back to base I turn it back on if they have any jobs to do, or leave it off if I'm just dumping resources

Neither of these replies have anything to do with the problem. Please read carefully.

I know that sleeping bags get ditched. I am writing about how splint kits and medical kits are ALSO being ditched with the bag.

They all have to do with the problem, unless the charcter ditching is the crafter, in which case theres nothing we can do unfortunately.

Unless we are all totally misunderstanding..

Toggle 'jobs' off and they will not ditch anything, Sleeping bags, med kits, splints or otherwise.

If the character ditching IS the crafter then everything is working fine.

I KNOW that sleeping bags get ditched. I am unsure as to why medical kits and splint kits are ALSO being ditched.

And why this is ONLY when a sleeping bag is added.

You are offering the obvious sandbox solution to getting around a problem. If you don't know that this isn't a bug, please step out.

Sorry for missunderstanding, I know it's frustrating when people seemingly don't read what you write.

Best answer I have is:

The only reason to sleep in Kenshi is to heal, thus beds, and sleeping bags are considered medical items.

Storage for specific items will pretty much summon any character carrying items of that nature regardless of their other jobs.

I do not know why you are experiencing this when you carry sleeping bags and not otherwise, in my games my characters will happily dump all their food, medkits, splints and sleeping bags if 'jobs' is on, just tested without a sleeping bag and it's the same for me.

I have jobs on, ditching on and medic on. I can walk around all day in my base without ditching healing kits or splint kits.

It's only when the bag is added that the other kits get ditched. I don't know if this is standard behaviour. Hence why I am calling it a bug. If someone can't prove or show me otherwise, this is still a problem.

I'm happy for my guys to ditch the bags. I'm used to them doing it even though I would prefer not to juggle jobs or bags. Juggling jobs off at the moment removes the "carry and rescue" job for my guys and I hate turning that off.

I usually have my adventures only have 3 jobs, Medic, Robotics, and splint, so I don't mind turning jobs off (those 3 aren't switched off regardless of jobs button)

If nothing else, it seems inconsistent that they only ditch when sleeping bags are added.

Perhaps it's a threshold type deal? X inventory squares taken up = ditch?
In that case your madic kits might not take enough inventory space, but the sleeping bag might go over?
Have you tried filling your inventory with medkits/splints, see if it still doesn't ditch?

Just tried giving that character an entirely full inventory of medic kits. Every slot in inventory is full, and every slot in backpack is full.

Jobs are on. Medic role is set. Nothing is ditched. This is the behaviour I expect.

I added the sleeping bag and discovered something different about the behaviour.

She ditches the bag and all the medical kits and splints that will FIT in the medicrate, and leaves the remaining kits in her inventory.

So she is ditching the bag and as many medical supplies as she can into the first crate she goes to. Then stops ditching.

There are other empty medicrates on base that exclude all crates being full as a problem as well.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Okay so I must have been lucky in nearly 1000 hrs play and never had this happen before, because my crates are usually mostly full. Damn this is confusing. I'll mark this up as resolved as nobody else has found this to be new or unintended behaviour.

It come across as inconsistent behaviour but I'll learn to deal with it :D

What i mean is that if they try to ditch resources in one crate and that one fills up before they get there, they won't look for another crate unless another job comes inbetween
But if you have 2+ crates and one is full, they will use the second. So they will use multiple of the same storage, but they will not "Oh this one filled while I was running to it, better use the second"

Yeah I get it man all good. Thanks for your help :D
