2 Katanas in main weapon slot
So you can carry two Katanas in your main weapon slot, and one in the second weapon slot. Total of three weapons carried this way. (Which only works with the katanas.)

The animations always show you as only wielding one weapon. No matter what you have equpied.

Does the damage stack from carrying two weapons in the main slot? Is this a waste of weight, and just carrying around potential cats for no reason?

the main slot are for your main wepon. which can be katana or a big heavy sword. the second slot is only for katana. which if im correct, a feature will be added later if you lose an arm while carrying a 2 handed wepon, youll switch to the second wepon that is 1 handed. so no stacking to katanas will not improve damage, only to hold 2 hands and the second is for that perpous i believe. i hiope that helps

Also, he has confirmed ranged combat will be in the game, so it will be especially important for archers to be able to switch to a secondary weapon when enemies get too close. Crossbows are the only ranged weapon confirmed, though I suspect short and long bows will be added (maybe composite bows?).
also there is aperently harpoon guns! is it a turrent? a actual gun? i dont know... all i know is there will be one!

He said the Harpoon gun will be a turret for wall defences.

Chris (the dev) confirmed that there will be crossbows as equippable weapons, and harpoon turrets as buildable defenses.

I still think it would be cool to implement dual wielding like this, equipping 2 katanas in the first slot should let you wield both at once. This still allows a secondary weapon to be equipped although I think the secondary weapon slot should be expanded if he intends to require quivers for bolts or whatever.

Unrealistic. Katanas are supposed to be two-handed weapons.

That all depends on how big the katana is ^_^

Actually, he's pretty much right. Fighting with the katana is meant to be done with two hands. You know Star Wars ep. IV, where Obi-Wan and Vader were dueling each other? That's the best depiction of what katana fighting would look more like: each person is wielding a weapon that can do lethal damage if handled improperly, so each strike and block is carefully executed (except that Obi-Wan backspin). In fact, I believe the actors in that scene were even taught to fight like that from a professional swords expert that was on the set.

So yeah, katanas are lethal if handled improperly and should NEVER be dual-wielded.

So the consensus is, having two katanas in my main slot is useless. Looks like some guys are about to upgrade to sabers then.
Thanks.

If this game was supposed to be realistic, shouldn't characters also get infections and die from stubbed toes during construction? And where are the whetstones to keep your sword sharp after blocking two attacks? And don't forget about heat exhaustion and hunger and thirst. And how come no one talks about losing a battle because your best warrior was sick with the flu or a parasite that he got from undercooked pork or unpurified water?

I'd rather have a good and fun game than a realistic one any day of the week. Being able to dual wield katanas (with some penalty of course) adds depth, variety, and more fun to the game.

I know, that was a joke.
But honestly, the fact that the character can run for days under the sun without needing food or water really surprised me.

That would be hilarious.

I agree that a katana should be a two handed weapon although adding some weapons that can be duel wielded such as sais would be nice because they could offer more speed which is something that an assassin or thief would want and both of those skills are going to be added later. Also some more weapon variation in general would be cool to see which im sure he intends to do later on but im not sure if that means more japanese style weapons only or perhaps some more western world ones like clamores and axes.

isnt the use of the second weapon slot for the 1 handed katana alreay in effect i tested it the other day and when my guy that was using a heavy weapon lost his left arm he started using his short katana to fight with
