Note that Skinner's Roam isn't a small region. Even if you build a house slap bang within the middle of it, it's unlikely that you'll find a herd of bandits anywhere near that point. I strongly suggest Shidan's biome map mod, as this will make your search area clear:

I think a necessary ingredient to make your unit continuously fall unconscious on his own is to have the bandit faction hostile to you. If they don't auto-attack every time you try to stand, you'll get up successfully, which then requires that you chase the bandits and get them to beat you again so that you can fall over again.
This doesn't really matter, though: so long as you have a decent medkit and the medic job assigned, you're quite safe regardless as to whether you let them beat you or not.
