What's your main product that you craft for money?
Ever since I tried making repair kits, that's what I've made. You can buy all the materials in town and more than double your cats. 2 steel bars and 1 robotics component gets you 2 repair kits. Some cities carry a lot of steel / robotics components. Heng, for example, tends to have 20ish robotics components and upwards of 20 steel bars. It generally only has 12 steel, though. Still enough to make a lot of passive income.

If you have your own outpost, you can easily set-up automated repair kit crafting and rake in the money.

I've never tried Grog or Hash, to be fair. I've bought Hash in the swamps and sold it in Flats Lagoon, though. Good money. When I first started the game, I crafted bandanas to level up armor smith, but I switched over to tanning leather a long time ago. So much less of a hassle. Go kill a bunch of Beak Things in Gut / Vain / where ever the closest place is for you. Come back with a Trader backpack or two full of skins, or a Garru full, if you have one. You now have enough skins to level your crafters to 85-90 before you need to go get more.

grog. you can clean out whole towns of cats, but millions of cats is pretty unnecessary after a while

That's likely the best method. Fully automated and can be done in town. Dunno why I've never tried it. I'm a big fan of Hydroponics and never use crops. Would tie right into my playstyle. I just love having Hemp growing right next to my crafters, rice / veggies growing right next to my cook, etc.

i've never tried a grog empire in a city. if you go the settlement route you can actually make so much you'll run out of places to sell it. i don't really build bases anymore though, and usually just stick w/ selling surplus advanced food items (mostly meatwraps if the town has a bakery) when in need of dough

Horse choppers :D And Ringed Sabres

Option a: Katanas. don't take up to much inventory space (compared to sabre class items) and ressource efficient. problem: needs a while to level up smithing high enough to make big amounts of money.
option b: hashish. set up between shem and swamp, produce alot of hemp, make hashish out of it and sell it in flats lagoon. +400% price modifier and no trouble with the town guards.

Once you have your supply chains set up, once you have your iron and steel and fabrics coming in, like, honestly, just make any item and sell it, it doesn't even matter, a single pack beast full of items, of any kind, will make you more money than you could ever spend.

What are you even going to buy, really? Edgewalkers weapons? Crafted Edge 1 & 2 will do the job just fine anyway... and you can crit Masterwork armour.

Leather armour. Once you can reliably kill animals for meat and skins its a no brainer. Even set up in a town you can buy fabric, cotton and hemp to make it. Its so easy to make money plus you get a high level armour smith in no time if you do it correctly.

I went with Sake in the grayflayer village. Just needed to buy a shack for 4k cats and have the research for the still. Free rice farms and town guards to protect you. Bonus for hash production later down research line with free hemp farms too. Solo friendly, when you fill a backpack just run to Market for a hefty increase in your profits vs selling in the swamps. The vendors at Market have 50,000 cats combined and you will collect all that every time you fill the backpack.

As far as nutty money in a legit production way I once did a Catun only run where the onslaught of beak things and boneyard wolves just kept skins coming in endlessly and so I did leather armor and eventually was making masterworks. Easily the fastest and best money I have ever made in game legit.

Pretty much all you already mentioned, maybe except repair kits.
I usually go for grog. Or hash is I settle in Shem. This is good, reliable money right there.

If you need to train smithing skills, I usually opt for bandanas or leather tanning, depending of what is stocked in nearby shops and how many animals are around.

Weapons - whatever I have available that takes as little space in the inventory as possible.

^-- I do that as well as some weapons, depending on what I feel like at the moment. But, Armor is good cats. :)

I don't engage in illicit drug production, just as a standard sort of roleplay thing. :)

arms and armour, gets the smiths skills up
excess food

only use for cats is armor king and black desert shops tho, i even gave wingwang 100k
mercs like to go adventuring vs a bonedog 3km away, nothing rare or collectable that's shop-only, and every essential is fairly cheep with a pair of smiths working 24/7

anyone know mods that make cats useful?
