How do you take a bandit prisoner?
I've built a cell and lured some bandits to my camp, but could not work out how to take prisoners.

Hold right click on the unconscious bandit, click "Pick Up," then right click on the cage you want to put the bandit in. There's not a text-box command prompt on the cages for putting prisoners in yet, but luckily it's the default action, so a simple right click does it.
Thank-you

Is there a benefit to imprisoning bandits? other than simple revenge of course.

Yes there is - you can imprison bandits and have your own squad members fight them for some one-on-one combat in order to train up their skills. The bandit gets stronger, and so does your squad member. You can also just give the bandits terrible weapons and badass armor so they can still fight but not really hurt you and won't die.

TL;DR - You can hold them and use them as enemies for your men to always train off of.

Wow... this game is limitless... if only I could get better performance out of it (which is kinda odd, since I don't have performance issues with most anything).

The only guy I put in a cage so far disappeared when I reloaded my game. Is this to be expected?

Once you have a prisoner, you can hold right click on his cage, and select "Set free." Then beat them up, heal them, stuff them back in the cage, repeat.

If you don't like fighting them right by the cage, you can also hover over the cage, hold right click, select "Pick up," carry them wherever you plan to fight, put them down, and start attacking. Be warned: Putting characters down does sometimes glitch, causing them to fly across the map or clip through the ground, so save often if you don't want to lose a valuable sparring partner.

Hm. I've never seen that one before, and I've been imprisoning the waste matter out of bandits. I'd try reporting it on the Lofi Games bug report forum: http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=9

So, I had a thought.

Assuming I can't already just put good guys into cages...
Could I attack and subdue a town, stick all of the shopkeepers in cages, and then slowly make friends with that faction again, allowing me to have caged shopkeepers on hand whenever I want them?

I healed him. He was fine. I'm not that bad at this game.

Someone else reported it on the Lofi Games forum, so it's not just you: http://www.lofigames.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6240&p=36889&hilit=prisoner+disappear#p36889
