first time playthrough as a wanderer...
and not really seeing the point of wandering? Is there anything other than city building and leading bandits to cities to loot and sell their goods? I don't particularly want to build a city, that was the point of a wanderer, but I don't want to just lead bandits to cities and loot them. Why aren't there any simple beginning quests or really anything else to do?

Help! ^^

The game is not very kind to you at the begging. You really have to struggle to get your characters to where they can handle themselves.

hmm, well challenge accepted! I'm going to check out some youtube videos and online guides, but i have a question. Is it possible to go it alone? I don't want to bring a bunch of people around with me. At most I want to build a little house and just be a crazy hermit ronin guy. ^^

Well, the starting points are just that, starting points, maybe w/ gear, no gear, faction problems, etc. Also this is a sandbox game, where you choose what to do, theres no such thing as a linear path in a sandbox game.

That being said this is still alpha with many feature still being unimplemented, so check out the sticky in this forum called "pathway" or something, to see whats coming in the future.

Edit* "Roadmap" :P

quick question, but is there ANYTHING to do besides lure bandits to guards when I start as a wanderer? I can't afford to buy anything, and I can't hope to beat anyone in combat. I know I'm probably missing something here, but I just keep dying otherwise.

Starting out espescialy as wander means your a nobody, you a person who never used a sword once in your life, no armor, and a rusty sword. Its meant to be hard, loot better gear, but beware you got no strength either so the stronger the shoddy armor is the more it gets to you. Plus armor will lower your athletics to a percent. Light stuff like what the ninjas wear is .98. The merc plate shoddy grade .77, the armor the gaurds wear will drop you down to a crawl at .38 I think for the pants, chest isn't as bad its near the merc plates handicap.

Look for dead for gear, its better then buying gear, the stuff thats better then what you find on a dead sand ninja, or dust leader is way expensive. Sand ninjas carry good short katanas and their armor is light yet good, plus their pants are the best you can find for free, even covers the stomach partialy.

As a wander you will have to scrounge around, I recomend at least one accomplice though, two will let you gang up on wounded sand ninjas you may find if your daring enough to fight it. Have one constantly move to the side of it, so as it whacks who ever it is targeting wich he will do easily at wanderer start, the other can get a shot in and stun him/her letting the other get a free shot in if your lucky. This way you get good fight exp, for attack and defense gain a little toughness, and a lot of first aid from all the bandaging afterwards.

Solo is by far the hardest way to play, you will need to pick fights with straglers or lone wounded ninjas to get your skill up enough to take on multiple, and the AI will do the very trick I just explained if your not constantly making your person back up, once your caught in a circle its a pain to get out, literal you will take some good blows as you run out of the circle and won't be able to defend at all. Also you want to get your defence, attack, and dex up high if you want to play one man squad. Katanas are great at that, they are fast so up dex and skills quickly in fights.

Once you get some speed and basic stats I recomend a heavy plank weapon its very slow, with out high dex, making it diffcult to block with with low skills but if you get a good strong swing in you can hit multiple targets for a lot of damage. The more heavy skill skill you get the harder it hits, with reportedly the abilty to one shot people if you hit the chest or stomach instead of a limb.

One method is to find a battle field wait for everyone to get knocked out. Then either heal someone or wait for them to get up and then you can fight them 1 at a time and they are already hurt so you can win faster.

Oh and the good planks have to be crafted in an outpost or purchased and are not cheap, but worth it if you want to play wrecking ball. Take a lot of work to research to build, and to save to buy so hopefully your toon will be seasoned enough to weild it well when you get it. But I really recomend using looted ninja swords, be mindfull of the stats they do very, use them for dex heavy weapons well are heavy so get a swing speed penalty, the dex will try to counter that.

Alright, quick update! I found a training dummy in the police station, so I spent some time in there. While I was in there I happened to see some damage numbers going on outside, so I thought I'd go check it out! Turns out a poor ronin was getting totally gang banged by a bunch of bandits. They killed him, and ran away. I relieved the poor man of his possessions (katana and a ringed sabre, some ninja armor) and equipped myself out. Sold the sabre for a pretty penny and went searching for more! Found an unconscious ninja (bandit I guess) and was able to hold right click and I picked him up lol. I ran him back to town (heard that runnign with a body is good for strength) and went back to train at the police station. Had an idea of maybe putting him in a cell (thought he was still alive) so I talked to the guard. Turns out I got a bounty! lol, have to say, this is hilarious. loving the game!

Sorry for the rant, but this is just awesome. Thanks so much for hte help guys. I'm going to just keep messing around.

Do locked doors keep out bandits? I built a little shack and a research bench, and some bandits threatened me. Wondering if my locked door will keep them out... o.o

edit:......well, i have the answer to that question... :(
