Kinda overwhelmed tbh, how do i get food?
I did the guy with a dog run and i scouted a abandoned settlement, plenty of building materials and stuff but no food..

ran to the direction of the map more south with water cause water equals town right?

nope, just some empire soldiers fighting ninja's or something, i succesfully loot some of them without getting aggro'd, ofc none of them have food...

continue exploring and looking in the distance, thinking it's a town,... nope just another abandoned settlement with only building materials and no food

all this while i haven't encountered a single animal to kill for meat, and then i probably would have to make it back to a campfire to cook it.

another day continues and i see a tower on a mountain. "NICE", i think, finally a place to purchase or barter some of my supplies for a piece of chicken!

nope, just a hostile faction who attacked me on sight as soon as i got close to the base of the tower, i managed to get away buy dropping all my building materials but it looks bad, my dog is badly wounded, i see no settlement or anything to eat in sight.

so i got 2 choices, become chinese and eat the dog or accept my fate that there is no food and die

no but seriously where the f do you get food, i ran around looking for anything but nada.

next time i'm gonna keep relaunching the game until it actually drops me in a populated city.

I haven't played the guy with the dog start so I am unaware if you spawn in a random area or in an abandoned settlement, but I definitely encourage to just run to any populated city that is near you. Food is scarce to find the more you go in the dangerous lands but as long as you get to a populated city, you should be able to steal something in the store and sell it to a trader that buys fenced items. Then with the money, you can buy food. Or sell the stuff you loot from other corpses.

Or steal something in any place, usually there is a house that is empty but it has items to sell

Guy with a dog is one of the harder starts, as it starts in the middle of no where and has a fairly long trek to civilization with no real options for food aside for the pup unless you get lucky and find some bonedogs that the cannibals/UC/HN patrols have killed.. Also the puppy's stats are trash so you basically have to carry it to move quickly, which causes your hunger to burn faster till you build up enough strength to no longer have a load from it.

If you can make it to a real town, you'll be fine, but you also have to be careful about being too starved by the time you get there as if you're cripplingly hungry in the UC, there's a chance the guards will arrest you for being poor (and you need to pay them 3k+ cats to prove you're not if they accuse you).

there's a bar at the north end of Bast region, as well as some military barracks you can attempt to loot, which the closest place you could get food (also relatively safe besides cannibals/rebels).

Otherwise you'd have to beeline for Okran's Pride in HN territory or Stoat in UC territory.

but there's a fair amount of skimmer packs in the way you have to navigate around.

Wow, never heard anyone say that about 'player and a dog' start, but I agree, and it is one of my fav starts (on reflection) for those very reasons. Of course pup becomes a real big help in combat if you can keep it alive, so many players think it is an easy start without remembering the hard early struggle. Good post!
Man with a dog always spawns in Bast, and is a tough start for a newbie due to there being few obvious locations to acquire food or money. Drin is the only safe place in that region that has food, but shows up as a ruin like almost everything there (baring the Imperial watchtowers who are not welcoming).

Still better overall than Nobodies which can spawn you in Venge or Stobe's Garden with all the !!FUN!! around there, absolutely not a good time for a newbie in those regions.

well it says right in the Guy with a dog description "Maybe he'll just eat it." The start literally comes with food built in!

The dog has food on him. First you must knock it out. Then you must take the food from its inventory. Dont worry, the dog will go away on its own after you leave the area no way to prove its dead.

head north, to the coast. you'll find a great town there, and enemy soldiers should be less there

Just like in real life, you buy the food, or grow it, or hunt for it.

Or like a vulture, pick it off the dead corpse...
