What's the best way to train my group in combat?
So I have a relatively new game with 7 noobs and an outpost just north of Bad Teeth with a wheat farm and basic bread production buildings. Once I get a decent amount of bread, I want to head out and train my group in combat. What's the best way to level them up? I feel like if I attack an enemy that's too strong, they will get wrecked before getting any skills. So what is a good enemy progression that I should fight against? How did you train up your group? Keep in mind their skills are very low, they have no armor and have crappy weapons. :)

Well have one medic stand far away from the battle. So that way you can train the other 6 against whatever you want and they won't die. Best way to train is to fight stronger enemies and lose.

But what if the enemy is so strong that I don't get any attacks off? Will my attack skill go up anyway for being in combat or is it based on the damage you do?

Like BoD said.. Lose many Fights so they got some Thougness ( so they Stand Longer in Battle) you can go to One of the Towns they got Police Buildings with training Dummys so they can Learn to Attack without problems :3

well that shouldnt be a problem unless youre REALLY out classed. If you need to just turn on block only mode and you will level your defence skill.

to answer your question, combat skills are time based. Meaning amount of time in combat earns you xp. succesful attacks will increase your attack as well lol

Getting a beat down is the best way to train. It will at least get your defense and toughness skills up. My poor Sheng may be able to run 23 miles per hour with a backpack full of bread (which is Kenshi gold based on size:weight ratio), but he cannot fight to save his life.

Check out the thread 'How to stop 0.90.11 crashing' ; user ZombiePotatoSalad posted a dropbox link to the Kenshi exe version 0.90.10, which works without crashing. If you want to play, I highly suggest getting it.
The best way is throwing your group into the battle with hungry bandits at the low stats. In the medium stats, Throwing them to Bandits camp. At last, The superfast way is killing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Nation.

I think the best way is to build a base in a spot where you're raided often. I built a base south west of the hub and have to fight 2-4 times a day to protect my base. With 2 or 3 skilled fighters you can win every time while the new guys get beat up a lot and train up.

Just make sure you have some spare equipment locked up in case you lose and those bandits take your stuff (or disable bandits looting players).

Ok, so it seems like I'll just be throwing my guys into the meat grinder until they get better with a medic on standby :)

Farming.

Build a farm and a building with a bed for everyone. Then when the herbivores come to eat your plants attack them.

Having the beds nearby makes recovering a lot quicker. Especially since anyone unconcious placed in a bed in a town get dumped to the street now.

I suggest using block only your first few fights so as to get your defense and toughness up which in turn increases their longevity in a fight. Fast blocking is very important for fighting large groups. Using a crappy katana(rusty) will help make blocking faster while not killing your enemies as fast. Prolonged fights mean much more skill gain. Starving bandits come in large groups most of the time and are great meat for training early on. Light weapons build dexterity, dexterity increases weapon attack speed and block speed. This increases your chance of living a long and healthy life. lol

P.S. Minus any lost limbs from animals nibbling on you after a fight or fog men/canabals getting hungry.

Disclaimer: Not responsible for lost limbs due to using this advice.

Ya I plan on making beds when I can but I'm limited on supplies right now. All I have is 2 camp rolls on the ground but I don't think they do much since they still heal at a snails pace when using them lol.
