Will decrease the file size as well. The 500 prospecting picture was a 1.4mb image for such a tiny part.
Also will try to add main cities to help figure out locations.
The zone thing can be something added on later, but for now just a general fill-in for where the city is at should suffice I think. But if you are trying to be fancy, you can always try to cut/paste the image plus text from the main map and plop it onto the same location for the prospecting map.
This is exactly what I meant. :P
Having the main map and the prospecting map as similar as possible would help quite a bit.
Although once you get the Logos, its just copy/pasting them as most of them are the same.
And I hear you. Just running around the map taking large images is making me yawn a bit.
We may really just need the Farm, Hive, and main city icons.. I think that's all anyone uses as hubs.
Can just add the text in paint. Will be fast and easy.

Plus compared to the original link http://imgur.com/YaTN2gp
Just sucks that it can differ based on where you search.
Ya, that is why I suggested using a pie chart symbol. You are creating too much work for yourself that way with prospecting screenshots.
Your screenshots are just for farming alone, you would still have 5 other elements to do.
The idea was to use a pie symbol to keep it simple and give a general idea of what that area has for resources. If a person is really intered in that area they cna do their own damn prospecting once they get there, lol.
So I took a crack at clipping out the icon + wording, heres my first prototype. Let me know if this works for you or not.

Obviously that is not where The Hub is at, but just to show how clean I managed to get the clipping for it. Everything is spaced as it was from the origional over-map as well.
I must say it was harder than I thought it would be. It seems these icons and words were made with some sort of blending tool or straight onto the map itself, so a lot of its shading was a mix of the background colors for the map, I just removed as much as possible while still keeping some of the shadow effect it had without looking too out of place. If you want me to adjust it in any way let me know, and I'll give it a shot.
Heres the blank template I used for the icon + wording for the above image.

Wanted to do the individual maps more out of curiosity. Plus it was fun while it lasted. :P
I stil really wanted to do it, but found out I could get an area with 0 water to turn up green..
As awesome as that is, I don't think we will need it after all. Didn't have any luck with the resource maps showing what was and wasn't in spots accurately.. So there's zero purpose.
ex. Bottom left corner of the map has zero of everything. further north shows it having the same as +40.. Then taking a reading from the corner shows the northern spot having none..
Too complicated. x.x
Thank you though, for working on it. :D
Thanks for trying though, it seems at this point it might be easier to collect reports of good locations and making a custom-made map denoting them and their resource qualities, like Bored Peon suggested with his pie-chart symbol.
Since both of you are up for helping, color wise how should it look?
Need colors that would be easy to distinguish, and not forget.
Carbon-
Copper-
Farming- Green
Iron-
Stone- Grey
Water- Blue
Carbon black, copper orange, iron red?
