You can also make concentric walls. The AI can break through the external walls, specially at the point of contact with the wall. It looks like you are building on a road, so anything coming from the right has a chance of trying to break through.
Make a separate keep, off the road, and you'll save yourself some headaches.
Noted. I'll keep this in mind.
However, I like building a little realistic.. Also, on my save I am using a mod for a special start and endless backpack.
Forget the modder's name but Nat has 100 in all stats and he started with $30,000. Backpack of Holding I believe was the backpack mod which is worth $10,000. I just wanted to start and have some fun and experiment with the building system(s). Likely on my next run I'll build off the main roads.
To be honest.. I've spent hours looking for flat lands with suitable resources. Hard to find. Loving this game so far though! Was gifted on Friday.
On the plus side i like how you set up. Blocking the road like some bandit, forcing all who use the public road to have to stop at your town like some sort of rouge checkpoint.
I like Firemane (Lex)'s advice though. If you built a keep seperate from the road it would be beneficial. Not only that but also way realistic.
You seem to have set up on a sort of "valley" where the road is flanked by higher ground on both sides. A keep in the middle and to the bottom of that picture of yours would not only give mounted and unmounted crossbowmen a height advantage, but would give your outpost leader a wide high view of the goings on in your base. Mabey add a general "storage house" in the military area so that bandits would have to raid the keep to steal your supplies would be fun too.
You've just given me a few great ideas for my base. I was just going to settle on some boring flat ground somewhere with a standard wall around 3ish buildings. I like your military zone idea alot more.
