Can I make a custom start with custom members?
Hey,
Just wondering is there a way to use the FCS or some other means to make a start with say 3 unique characters that you have designed using the creator at the start?

Basicly wonder start but with 3 people in your "squad" vs just 1. Ideally that you've changed the race, looks, and stats of.

Yes, you can.

When you open the FCS, click to create a new mod, and then DONE (make sure your new mod is the one that it says "ACTIVE" on.
Then go to "Game Starts" from the left, and then right click and select "New Item".
From there on you can experiment a bit. If you need more help, just ask.

Funny you mention that, I was JUST looking up online about that 10 minutes ago to create a custom start for meself (1 slave instead of 2 for the slaves starting story).

I followed this guide here written by one of the moderators, really simple to follow!

Got the start and squad set up. But not sure how to add more characters there are a ton of drop down things. like "leaders, slaves, etc" Can I add more than one "leader"? Trying to make them all full members, not slaves, or mercs, etc.

Also how do I make the character use a custom look? Like a set race, body type, hair color, etc? I exported a few. Can I put that into the "body" under the char info window in FCS?

Thanks for the replys so far. :D

I'll try to run things through with you. Most of it should be pretty self explenatory, also when clicking them it gives a short description about each option below.

On the right side you see "inventory", which determines what's in your inventory, and the number determines how many of the items are in the inventory.
In this example I have 2 Advanced First Aid Kits and 3 Dried Meats.

The "race" determines the character's race, though it is not needed to be specified if you give it a custom body.

There are more things that you can specify, such as for example crossbows if you want your character to have those, what clothing they're wearing, dialogue package, etc. Best for you to just experiment.

On the left side (worth noting that most of these aren't always necessary if you're creating a character to get from the very start, which allows you to select race, gender, name, and customize them) first thing is the name of the character, and below there is "body". This accepts .bod2 files.
All you have to do to create a custom body is open the game and start a new game, at the character creation customize your character as you like and then "export" him.
This exported character is saved in your "export" folder as a .bod2 file.

Just click on the three dots, find your saved character and select it.

If you scroll down, there you will find the option for them to be "named".
If you want your character to always have the same specified name that you gave it, then you'll have to se this to False. Otherwise they'll have a random name.

Meanwhile setting "unique" to True will mean this character only spawns once in the world. This is good if you don't want to randomly be running into the same character again and again, even if they are different entities.

This is the squad sheet.

Note that our Example character is set as "leader", though this only has any effect if this is an NPC squad, as in the player-owned squads there are no leaders and everyone is equal.

We have two Adult Mountain Dogs. The first number is min. number of them, and the second number is the max. number of them, and since both are set to 2, that means we'll have two of them. The last number sets the age, so 0 would be Pup and 100 is for Adult, so out's is an adult.

Leader/squad is pretty much the same thing.
In total we have five squad members. One "Example", three "Example eneric squadmates" and one "Example special squadmates".
The first number represents the min. amount of them, and the second the max. If max. is set to 0, then it just means their quantity is not randomized.

As I showed above on our Example character, we can specify pretty much anything for out characters.
If you want every character to be specified differently, then you'll have to create each individual character.
But if you don't care that much, but want them all to have the same gear, or the same name (only if you've set named=false), etc. Then you can just create one character, and increase the quantity of that character.

Then lastly here is the game start sheet.

Let us check how that looks in-game

You can really go crazy in this stuff. With a bit of creativity and understanding of the system, you can give them special dialogues, different blood color, different starting skill levels, etc. Though this comment would be way too long to include everything that you can do and how to do it

It's a bit more complicated to do than it intially appears, since there's several steps to set everything up, but it's very doable. You just need to play around the FCS till you figure it out.

I haven't followed this step by step yet, but I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write this up here. I'm hoping to follow through this in the FCS this weekend to try my hand at a custom start.
