Then check out that islands east of Howler Mace. They acutally contain all the recources and very flat land. Also crabs, lot's of crabs.
Either the Shrieking Bandits overwhelm your base and drive you away, or their endless corpses overwhelm your VRAM and cause a CTD.
Go to the Gut, and start settling down.
Hilarity guaranteed, survival not. For even greater enjoyment, ensure that you have group spawn multiplier at max 4x.
There's a nice spot in the Gut north-north-west of the Farming Village in the Outlands that has both Copper and Iron veins (though a bit spread out). You'll also get to occasionally entertain Reaver patrols coming over with friendly neighbourhood welcome if you settle so close to zone's border.
For slightly higher levels (30-40), The Pits is great if only due to the number of factions that can spawn there. And most of them are hostile to each other. Crab Raiders, Skeleton Bandits, Scavengers, Treasure Hunters (who can be hostile), fish people, landbats, the occasional sniper bot...
If that's not enough, settle in the junction of Pits, East Pits, and Stobe's Garden for real party time. It also helps if you don't have hydroponics researched (both Pits. even the coastal areas of them, are dead zones, whereas Stobe's Garden at least has Arid fertility). Technically you can make do through trade or stealing with Crab Raiders settlements anyway, it's just more annoyingly repetitive.
Fishman Island is a notable mention (or, for that matter, Royal Valley), though both are, obviously, threat-specific in what to expect.
It breaks my immersion to see such blatant Scots in Kenshi ;)
The area has good Fertility (90) Decent Water (20 at the hilltops, up to 80 at lower elevations, with semi-frequent rain) is Iron-rich (100 Ore Drills can be placed in multiple areas) stone-rich (100 Stone Mines) and fair winds (Big Wind Generators stuck at 50% Capacity)
Only scarce resource is Copper, there are copper sources, but the closest one is inside Venge, within range of the Eye. I've lost two laborers to it lol. You don't get a "Warning" when your people are being zapped by the Ion Cannon.
It's a good area to train mid-level people, you get lots of Grass Pirate attacks, with the occasional reaver raid. However, Crossbow mounting and walls are necessary. I have it set up wierd, in that my Walls are undefended, but I mounted Harpoons/Crossbows on the Storm Houses closest to the gate, if a battle is going sideways, I retreat into the Storm houses which create a crossfire overwatch situation, lock the doors, have the engineer repair the doors and everyone else rain bolts down. With only 8 low-mid level defenders, the Keep has yet to fall.
You will get UC Tax Collector and Trade Guild extortion events, I ignored (politely) the Trade Guild request. But I do pay the Taxes to the Samurai. 4,500 is just one Beak Thing egg a week, and Gut is close enough for a runner to get there and back inside of a day.

I like this screenshot because you can see my kill-zone though lol, all the blood streaming down the hill.
My base wasn't even close to complete yet when I took the shot, and don't lol@my vanilla graphics, I always play a game at least once before modding it. Otherwise you can get what's called "Mod Blinders" which is the reason people think New Vegas was good, and not a horrible piece of ♥♥♥♥ that broke people's hard drives and had more bugs than an entomology convention.

so much this
I should mention that I have Reactive World (this might be responsible for the Fishmen) and the mod that lets you build closer to settlements (I was able to build on the beach next to the Farming Village).
The main attraction of this spot, other than all resources and relatively weak enemies, is close proximity to a few cities, beak thing eggs (100 Sneak skill if OP AF), and ruins for research. It's not exactly flat but I don't get the obsession people here have with flat ground. I seem to be able to build pretty much anything I need, including walls blocking up mountain routes.
Perfect defensive location, only one way into it, can be defended from up very high with a circle of rim top watchtowers if you can be bothered or a simple bottleneck entrance, or both lol.
Plenty of room for a decent outpost if you're smart with your building. I have 5 Station houses in there as it's by far the best building to get lots in along with having huge roof space too. The watchtowers in my base are basically for cosmetic reasons as I simply wouldn't be able to man them all with crossbows and there's no need with the entrance I have (20 turrets, possibly 24 but 4 keep bugging out). Still room for some smaller buildings even though I also have 3 big auto iron mines, furnace, corpse disposal, silo's, storage crates etc in there too. Plenty of space to throw up windmills around the rim/perimeter too (where accessible).
Only problems, building entrance was a bit of a PITA but I managed it eventually, no fertility, no stone (or copper I believe, not checked tbh), no water. But that adds to the challenge. I modded in easier stone, copper & iron ores despite iron being there already along with my vanilla auto mines, the hydroponics sort out fertility, rain collectors should sort out water (not tested) so just stone & possibly copper being a problem in vanilla.
Not had anyone visit for tax (yet), had Wrath of God repeatedly get lost on it's way to me despite Shek Allies finding it no problem. Get a good supply of food/skins from Landbats & Black Gorillo's. Skin Bandits, Skeleton Bandits, Reavers & Crab Raiders send frequent suicide squads along with other occasional trespassers like Eastern Hivers & Sniperbots (now in my turret squad!! hehe)
I'd show you a screenshot of my base, which is a WiP but I'm not currently playing Kenshi and CBA to fire it up lol ;o)
