L - Houses for me, they're big enough to build crafting spaces and beds inside and easy to just put turrets everywhere

Station House is best for space in my opinion. Huge expanse for building stuff on both levels. I use them a lot especially if I do Hydroponics as you can cram loads of them in there.

And if you need room for storage too...look no further lol ;o)

The Station house is amazing. The best thing about the outposts is that they can be built right next to each other. Like right next to each other so you can't walk through. If you're really interested in security you can make a ring of them, and of course, that's gonna be quite useful. But, by the time you can afford that... well, you can just build a stationhouse or 3, and they have much nicer space and are way cheaper.

One thing to consider about the watchtower and turrets is that the higher your turret is the greater its firing range bonus becomes. That is, you can fire farther away.

I am all for the station house. Both of my hydroponic setups have been in the station house. My first successful crafting and research building was the station house in the hub. I have also had success with the Bughouse for my smithy when I was on a narrow hilltop, and no other building would fit.

Furthermore I have used the Y-house for crafting with Clothing/Leather/Fabric/Smithy/Crossbow/ArrowBench/PlateandAlloy stations. Most of my raw mats storage goes outside around the building, and finished product goes near entrance and/or on top.

My favorite all around crafting building was the Stationhouse. Currently my base nearest the Holy Nation for the Fogwars has limited building space. I am using two Stephouses for crafting/research, stationhouse for hydroponics, and the base of a tower for crossbow/arrowbench. Sleeping and storage are in the towers, skeleton repair bed, etc. Extra beds are on top of one stephouse. Raw materials storage are around the buildings. I build materials production first, and then setup storage to funnel to the buildings as best I can considering geography and base protection duties.

I always build twice as much power as I can use at night. Along the southern edge of the Fog Islands I haven't found a place without steady 6.7 or so mph. In 400+ days in game, with some weeks not there, I have never seen the wind stop blowing. I build 1500 in battery anyway. At my base near the hub the wind would stop blowing completely and I found having 8000+ battery put me in a place where I never thought about outages, but they were still rare.

Also the stephouse makes a nice courtyard defence where my crafters can mount turrets quickly and effectively. I have the high side nearest the wall, creating an alley to reach the tower or wall ramp.

I have managed to fit all armour and weapon related crafting needs into the bottom floor of a single Station House, including all related material storage. Power can then be installed on the roof, so I like the station house for independent factories and hydroponics.

But my favourite combination is Storm House with Outpost III, as the Storm House supports 4 forward facing turrets above the door and the Outpost III can be placed directly next to some other buildings without a gap.

Using this combination you can create an enclosed base with all building entrances covered by multiples of 4 turrets from one or more buildings placed nearby. And 8 to 16 harpoons does a nice job of messing up invaders..

The watchtower also works for this but I find the round shape and multiple floors slightly tedious to work with. While it does gain an advantage to range and damage for its turrets, I find this advantage unnecessary. Plus the turrets all point at funny angles (which just bugs me).
