Are crafted weapons better than bought ones? Or is it the same?
Because money is so easy to get it seems worthless to train weapon/armor crafting unless those weapons are better?

you can craft up to edge1 (edge2 with critical success) but you can buy edge3 (at scrapyard).

okay thanks, so its useless to lvl crafting etc. kind of a bummer :(

ok if you need a lot of decent weapons & armour for a big squad rather than running around trying to find them ;o)

Weapon smithing is pretty useless, yes. You can only craft up to edge 2 when edge 3 grades are plentiful at the scraphouse.
Armor smithing on the other hand is very worth, it will take you a lot of Armour King visits to equip your squad in full masterwork Samurai armor, and AK doesn't even sell Crab armor so if you want masterwork grade Crab you gotta smith it yourself.

They is mod that makes craftable the same as shop bought, still hard to get as it tech level 6

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1612920478

Meitou remains uncraftable which is fair as they are uniques and special boss loot.

That mod lets you research up to Edge 2, which becomes Edge 3 on a critical success. Other mods let you research up to Edge 3, with Meitou on crits, and this one lets you research up to Meitou, with crits becoming Rusted Junk (oops...)

As an avid crafter, the biggest advantage in Vanilla is the ease of access. In my case, I also love knowing that my guys use their own gear.

Ease of access matters, though. With armor, crossbow, and weapon crafters in 70 to 90 skill range, I can reliably equip my team of 20-25 people in exactly what I want them to have. I can also much more easily experiment with different load outs, as any item is at most 1 game day away.

EDIT: This is the mod

Easy to get/customise squad, whenever i need i could just craft any weapon i need against any particular type of enemy i need to defeat, also being able to equip in any armor of my choosing nice bonus too. Mass producing is nice in this regard.

That being said, weapon could be crafted only up to Edge 2, and loot/buyble ones for Edge plain better because of +10% sharp damage. Up to catyn 3 they're just as good tho.

For me personally crafting was nice jumping point in equipming my squad, but your mileage may vary. I saw how people who knew a bit about game was being able to buy Mk weapons nearly at start and if you know how, Edge could be get relatively easy too.

I definitely recommend edge type 3 mod, makes a lot of sense and isn't gamebreaking.

I craft weapons for RP reasons as much as anything. If we find something good on our roamings, then a special weapon has been found and will be allocated to the squad member where it would be most appropriate.

Of course, most of my squad sqaunders money and has no time for fancy. I do have one or two that are fashion victims and have to have the latest shiny and need to look their best on the battlefield. Would be kinda good to have an intrasquad affinity mechanic, but I use my imagination :)
Can you craft different armor grades now? Last time I played, all your crafted stuff was standard iirc, maybe with some exremely rare and random exceptions.

You can see expected results from the character sheet if you mouse over the skill. Be aware that being in the darkness will massively kill the skill and give you the poor expected result, so check when in full light.

For clothing/armor and crossbows, the crafted quality is directly related to the skill of the crafter. Everything starts off at prototype, and goes up from there. Steps between the grades (let's say between Standard and High) have a chance to crit to produce the next step. For example at skill 94, you get Specialist armor 100% of the time unless it crits with 29% chance, and then you get Masterwork armor. Masterwork armor is fantastic.

For weapons, the grades are locked behind skill, research, building upgrade, and material grades. Research Weapon Grade technologies, you start off with Rusted Junk that only uses iron plates; when upgrading to Catun grade, you will start using Iron Plates and Fabric. When upgrading to Mk I-III grades, you will use steel bars and fabric. I don't know what you use for Edge I, as I have not unlocked that yet, and I believe that is the highest crafting grade you can unlock without mods.

In other words, weapon crafting will cap out at skill level, then at technology level, then at crafting station level in that order. It also has a crit chance to upgrade to the next level.
