Kenshi
Better Reactive Thankful AI's?
There's been many times where I felt like protecting an attacked slave. Not because I get much out of it, but just because it feels morally right to do. I'm sure there's a lot of work being put into the game already, but personally there's stuff that needs tending to more than other stuff.

I feel like, thankful AI's should be a focus at the moment. Because after I successfully knock two slavers out that was attacking an escaped slave, I feel like the least the slave could do is to say thanks. Maybe even join the group?

Maybe if merchants was outnumbered by bandits in the wild, and you come up to save their squeezed butts, they could at least give you a discount or maybe even a small gift and a thank you?

This stuff is just a personal opinion, but a detail that I very much enjoy in games like these. Also adds up to the roleplaying experience. Which is kinda why I play the game :)
It's not because I don't think you're working hard enough or anything, I just like to get my thoughts out in the world ^_^

I agree with this. My current base is in the Fog Islands so I save a LOT of people, and unless I rescue them from a prisoner pole I don't even get a friendly nod.

I would also like it if you could save prisoners who are unconscious, and if they wake up having been healed and freed then they should thank you before they leave (or of course offer to stay and help).

its a nice dream, but think about it from a captured persons view. some mofo caught u and beat u up. now some OTHER mofo came by and beat them up.... best case u could say it was arranged to buy loyalty. worst case they are going to do the same to u.... i think they would take the opportunity and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ run! u see alot of carebears, rainbows or unicorns in kenshi? its not a nice place. i think ur being very naive to think someone should thank u in that situation. course u could knock them out and capture them urself and then keep them till they learn gratitude :). u know hey, options lol

I don't know about you, but if someone saved me from the Fogmen I'd be pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grateful. I like having legs.

I'm sorry, but you don't have to judge me and my happy and magical perspective.
I just feel like the game needs more options. Like, the only way to get around in Kenshi, is being a douchebag xD

I understand why and how it is so rewarding to kill and steal. But sometimes, buying someone's loyalty doesn't come from a club to the face, which is what slave traders think, it comes from kindness and love <3
I wouldn't see Kenshi as a just miserable place. Sometimes you find friends. Be it bandits or merchants. But the way to get these, is by talking to them in a bar for a minute, and suddenly they'll do anything you ask them to. That is what I'd like to see changes in.

I really like that the devs have created such a Hobbesian fever dream of a world in Kenshi, but I agree that there needs to be at least some gratitude directed towards the player every once in a while.

The thanklessness of every task in Kenshi can wear on you, and it actually is restrictive of certain ways of playing the game, in the sense that you will always be rewarded for being a selfish ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and always taken advantage of if you extend a helping hand. Yes, some would say that's the way of the world (I disagree), but I don't think the people inhabiting Kenshi are completely devoid of positive emotions either, especially if you just saved them from Fog men.

Who knows though, maybe with the Diplomacy update, there will be some updates to the AI to make them less self-interested all the time. I'd love to see the relations aspect of the game fleshed out as much as possible either way.

I'm sure I've had quite a few NPC's thank me for fixing them up, not had any thank me for helping them in a fight though. Would be cool & a nice way to add allies.

"i just want to be appreciated, atleast a thank you" lol

seriously though that idea about it being too easy to hire people from bars, just giving them a few grand and they are yours for life... I agree its too easy.
Would be cool if there was a "loyalty bar" if it gets to low your people will leave you. after it gets high enough they decide to join you for good.

Negative loyalty:
-Letting them starve too long and they might leave the squad. (after all wasnt that the deal?)
-Letting them get their asses kicked all the time and they might leave? some kind of dialog as warning. "wtf this squad sucks, im leaving if this keeps up."
-Work them on the mines too long and they might get bored and fed-up. "♥♥♥♥ this ♥♥♥♥ im out!"

Positive loyalty:
-Let your men take a break and get them drunk. "Cheers to the captain!"
-Winning battles
-giving them good food, well fed. ( i see theres different quality of food already)
-Rescued captives would join you and are less likely to leave your squad compared to some drunk guy you hired in a tavern.

Again, after a certain amount of "loyalty" is met, they will join you for life.
would make it more challenging to hire new squad members.
and would add more "life" to the characters. give them more feelings

I like that idea Percavil, although I'd have to get them to sign a contract to return all items if they terminate their relationship with my squad lol ;o)

There is definitely some goodness in Kenshi. How many times has a wandering Tech Hunter saved your ass? In at least my last 2 game starts, I was saved from an early character death because a tech hunter happened to come across me, healed me, and went on his merry way.

Despite the HN being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to most people, they look after people who they think of as "their own". When I had a greenlander base in their territory, they were forever giving me food and medical supplies, without expectation in return. By our standards, the HN sucks, but in their eyes they're the good guys and actively help out others who they see as part of their fold.

I think it's about right as it is, most people you heal just go on their way so when someone does say "Nice healing job thank you" I think cool, I'll watch your back until we have to part ways.
If everyone was fawning and grovelling over a bit of help it would soon become just another 'meh whatever' moment.

I already have about 15 rescued orphans in my squad and when I see them coming now I'm thinking which options I have to click to get rid of them as fast as possible. More frequent and it's going to get real tiresome.
