Need Pros and Cons of katana class weapons vs. hacker class weapons.
I got both Meitou Nodachi and Meitou Holy Cross and my guy has Str 73, Dex 44. I'm wondering which of the two I should use. I saw that Holy Cross breaks blocks and has higher damage, but the Nodachi attacks a lot faster and has combos. I have 50 skill in Katanas and none in Hackers. What I'm really asking is if I should train Hackers for the Cross or keep using the Nodachi. My character is powerleveled, I'm going for a small 5 people squad.

Heavy Weapons + Hackers = good crowd control with larger but slower AOE attacks. Does good cutting and blunt damage.

For powerleveled characters, I would consider mainly using a Heavy Weapon/Hacker while having a Katana as a side-arm. The fact that Heavy Weapons and Hackers deal both cutting and blunt damage means it's a better all-purpose weapon when talking about damage output.

However, there is no true all-around 'best' weapon, just a best weapon for certain situations.

I think it's more personal choice. There is no "best weapon". Have two characters, one wielding the Nodachi, the other using the Holy Cross.

It's just like the "Which is better, 100 Martial Arts, or 100 Katana skill?" It's personal preference,

I would say the nodachi katana in this case. Most of it is personal preference, but the nodachi provides good range, some AOE, and is fast to wield - all things useful in my opinion for a small squad.

I have been using the Nodachi until now, but I dismissed my best fighter so I could fight him and he had a Nodachi; my main guy(lower stats, -1 or 2) with the Paladin's Cross beat him and this is why I'm on the fence now (I've been playing Katana class the entire game)

Only katana! Katana is the best weapon in the game!

Martial arts, hands down? lol

Yeah, after I finish meeting with the Floatsam Ninjas I'm gonna train Martial Arts like crazy. I've seen it's potential screwing around in the FCS

Katanas are best early on, since they can be effective with little stats. And even a "newbie" can stunlock an opponent with a wakizashi. They are also useful in "duel" against few but strong units. Heavy and martial weapons need a lot of stats to actually do something, but later on they can be really strong. Heavy is especially effective against crowds.
So far every category has a role, which is fine, there are no "best weapons". Except for polearm, which are really weak overall, alongside a very situational bonus.
Sadly can't be said for the weapons themselves inside those category. You clearly have winners and losers there.

That's a bunch of starving bandits, so yeah^^ MA have a penalty against metal stuff like robots, and the block animation take longer than for "normal" weapon. I like MA, but it's certainly not the best. I don't think there is a best either.

The only issue I see with martial arts is the attack speed seems kinda broken. Almost like you spend too much time stuck in dodge aimation to take anything down quickly.

That character has a 72 katana skill and eveyrthing just dies like ten times faster only due to attack speeds and block animation is not as long.

If i remember correctly, the cross has good blunt and cut stats, while a katana should have only cut, since your character seems to go more towards STR you should use the cross, with the blunt + STR it should be easy to beat really strong opponents and crowds, while also having a nice percentage of cut damage since your dex is kinda high, also it gives a bonus against robots if you are ever going against that pesky armor king.

I farmed Crosses for my whole squad this morning and after testing them I am pleased with the results, but I didn't go too much into it because I've been training MA. Game's easy with 95 Stealth (100 with bonuses), 95-96 Assassination, 85-90 Thievery and 85-90 Lockpicking. As far as maneuvering around the enemy I practically don't even exist.

I would just save game, fight, switch weapon, repeat. See the results.

After one game with a squad full of purely katanas and another game with a squad full of planks, i prefer the planks.

Martial Arts = Devastating on duels with high STR + Tough characters, most DEX + Dodge growth on training. Takes a lot of time investment and careful hardening and armor choices.

Heavy Weapons may have a lot of work cut out on rookies, but Martial Arts is a great deal difficult to master when it comes to finding the right enemy stats to fight against. You could go up against the Bugmaster after claiming the bounty and outfitted with training gear, but getting him first is the hard part.

I have concluded that I'll be keeping both the Nodachi and the Paladin's Cross in my people's inventory untill further testing. I'm currently leveling MA, now averaging at 30 across the board. I'm leaning more and more towards the Paladin's Cross though, for the purposes of my 5 squad people being able to handle the large armored crowds they'll come across.

Thanks for your fast responses, guys, the community seems very helpful :)
