Good ways to advance high end combat skills?
For example, 70+.

I can run into a group of bandits and set block only and deflect for a very long time before I have to take out the squad due to attrition, and only get like 4-9% of a level, far too slow to be of practical use. After awhile, enduring scores of town raids doesn't even level stats much at all.

I've also captured higher skilled enemies like Dust King, the Ninja guy, dust bosses and warbosses and used them for live practice. Gave them great armor but terrible weapons, but again, glacial pace of advancement.

A tooltip says your skills will raise faster facing more skilled opponents. Well, bandits do nothing and moving to Holy Empire squads, I get schooled pretty quickly, a 20-25 skill lead doesn't make up for the numbers. I have full specialist/masterwork heavy armor and blackened chainmail to help survive longer, but against those guys it doesn't matter. I suppose it may work better to find enemies in between bandits and Holy Empire, but I'm not sure what would work best.

Any advice?

Fight leviathans...Essentially if you have 70 melee attack, you need to fight enemies above that skill level to get a decent gain. Someone probably has some mathmatical spreadsheet about it, but I'm just going from what I've noticed myself.

It can be slow going at 70+ but like already mentioned, that and some characters you encounter have some high stats that would also help but the repercussions could be painful. Some of those shek have some insane stats hit like a truck but can provide some nice skill gains.

i am currently using a small group of prisoners, the most effective at training my guy is the skel armor king. His stats have risen along with the guy training enough to keep a decent xp reward on most fights.

His melee defence for instance is now 90ish before bonuses, and over 100 with bonuses.I also have him in heavy armor, specialist grade .A fight between him and my main can last a few hits,if i get unlucky on damage and location (3 or so high damage hits to his head can end the fight almost instantly),to 15 or so minutes (where i do easily over 1000hps damage on him)

He even on occassion gets the upper hand on my main guy (all combats stats 85 or higher),and due to what appears to be some special characteristics that the armor king has,i dont have to worry about him actually winning :P

It all depends what your gear is, what weapon you're using and most importantly how many people you have at a good skill level.

A group of 8 people with 60 in all their stats and full heavy armor can easily roll over an entire holy nation city and their reinforcements, mayyybe avoid Phoenix if you have hivers or skeletons (then again why even bother with races that can be killed in one hit cause impossible to cover all bodyparts fully).

Like Aviticus said, you can always train up on Leviathans, it's faster now because you can have 2 people or so hitting large targets since a recent patch.

Go smack some leviathan babies and if you have the gear and defense, adult ones. Try to get them to a mountain or some secluded corner or you will be hit by a garru pack every 2 minutes. They became a real menace ever since they were changed to aggressive mobs. Horrible attack animation that goes right through your block most of the time and they move in massive packs.

Also in addition to what I said earlier, 70 is already pretty much high end stats, there's not much that can take you on, and those that can will (I assume you have a group) be outnumbered.

Just wailed on 3 adult Leviathans back to back with my top 2 people. Better gains than anything else so far, but still a very slow. Maybe I'll make a training camp up there eventually.

Also I forgo to mention that you should equip the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weapon that you can find. Seems like the skill progression isn't tied to damage, but to how many hits you get in instead.

just did some testing vs Leviathans,xp was horrible.I hadnt fought them at all this patch (stable),so i ran out there and fought a few to see if they were worth it.They were not,Not even close.

My combat stats are in the late 80's to early 90s.A single levi didnt even give me 1% tick in defense, and only gave a 2% tick in offense.

By comparison,my live training dummy the armour king, gives me on average about a 14% tick in offense per combat.I dont know what the average in defense was,as i didnt record that for the armour king combats but i think its about 6%.

Live training dummy skel armor king for the one win ,by a huge margin.
