Slave recruiting how does it work? (And other questions I thought I'd never need to ask)
Messing around I read online you can capture npcs and drop them off to be enslaved. Then if unnoticed they'll join your party. From experience, this doesn't work. Instead they run off saying, "Bye my people need me!" I'm getting mixed signals, do they just immediately join or do they come back eventually?

There's only a chance they'll join you, and they can't join at all if their combat stats are too high. Specifically, these are the rules for stats (copied from the wiki):
Characters with Strength, Dexterity, Melee Attack, Melee Defence, Martial Arts, or Dodge above level 25, and the cumulative total of those stats equals 75 or higher, cannot be recruited. If they have 25 or lower on those stats, they can be recruited despite the cumulative total. And if they have more than 25 on any of those stats, they can be recruited if the cumulative total is less than 75.

This helped, read the wiki and found a candidate to test it. Random skeleton in bar, grabbed him and tossed him into the fine establishment. I then purchased him for 10k, which is a steal!

Yesterday I came upon 4 Escaped Servants with chains at a vendors place all just standing there. I unlocked their shackles and 2 ran off immediately. 2 tagged along with me for a bit. One joined my squad.

So for those who need help on this in the future, slaves cannot have primary stats exceeding 25 unless its a single stat and the rest are below it. As for recruiting, save before buying them and just keep reloading and leaving town until it joins your squad. Took me three attempts until it joined. That marks three skeletons, to my army plus free reputation for skeletons faction.
if you're plain after slave recruitables, recruitable prisoners broadens this horizon. you can also recruit slaves you've bought as regular party members.
