toothpick squad?
since the toothpick is fastest rpm ranged weapon, is it possible a 30 men toothpick squad destroy the kenshi world? like toothpick goes brr, it may deal very low damage, but it can make enemies keep flinching.

ha! I don't know, but I'd like to see that. I do like to train all my characters on tooth picks, though, and will usually assign them to the whole squad when I do. Enemies always manage to close to melee range a lot faster than I think they will, so in practice, I probably end up getting them more experience with cleavers, or whatever it is that they have on their hip slot.

Toothpicks are really fun, but the thing I hate about them is crafting the ammunition for a full squad. It's not fast and I'm always surprised by how quickly I run out.

Why give 30 man wet noodels if you could give them something that hurts?
Unless your goal is to keep something staggered for ages.

It is possible, though I'd want a few heavier hitting crossbows here and there in that squad.

You can run all your characters as crossbow users and basically... gimp the game if you have enough of them. :) (Some special targets would be difficult to deal with/get to, though, in some cases.)

Things can break down a bit when your faced with lots of targets.

I routinely run everyone to the Foglands to train up against Fogmen and once had a very large "crossbow trainee" group using Toothpicks. I got into a situation where I was being constantly attacked/surrounded by Fogmen and Fogman patrols. (On the West or Southwest side of the Fog Islands where I had no choice but to go through even more Fogman camps to get to Mongrel.)

As the number of fogmen increased, the effectiveness of the "all crossbow trainee group" (15 or so?) became less due to having to spread fire among more targets. Fogmen aren't particularly tough, but they can move fairly quickly when they want to. So, they'd eventually filter into the group and force melee fighting. That wasn't terribly bad, as they don't have any armor and Katanas are enough to down them.

PS: I'd run this kind of training group with a melee/toughness training group, too. I took advantage of Friendly Fire toughness gains. :) Close by would be a good melee and crossbow group to save the day in case things went badly.

For amusement purposes, I guess. They're pretty fun.

Better use junkbow.

Very very possible. It's actually pretty op to anyone without 100% armor coverage and decent harpoon resistance.

As long as you have at least one acting as bait and you set up your firing line before a fight it is possible to roam with 30 toothpicks.

mostly average. the best outcome is when fighting wildlife and hungry bandits.

the good thing about it, helps training your squad in crossbow and toughness.

Toothpicks are worthless vs heavy armor because arrow resistance is a flat number and not a % like everything else. They also waste ammo, which at first you think "np". Then you have to check everyone for arrows all the damn time because their is no mechanic to support them refilling their own arrows. Toothpicks make it worse because they do the least damage and fire the fastest.

Toothpicks are best for training bow.
Ranger bow is the best generalist bow, the other ones fire way too slow.

5 units of ammo on a Toothpick will run out in a few fights.
5 units of ammo on a Ranger will last many fight.

Yeah tried to make a big 30 crossbow man squad with eagle crosses. Everything was dead on sight but i had to dedicate half of resources to spamming bolts and then checking if everyone has ammo and then manually resupplying them. After a while this got so tiresome that all I saw was the amount of micro i'll have to do when my squad will return to base. Just go heavy weapons , way more enjoyable. Or get infinite bolts mod that works too.

Or you make like 30 benches and let them all craft bolts for a day or three.

Is there a way to set a permanent job that they can refill bolt into their inventory by them selves?

Never heard of an option for that direction.
Only to put in the boxes.

It has been awhile since I made crossbows but I recall that your characters would place crafted ammo into their inventory in you do not create an ammo storage box.
