Is Bast a decent place for a player base?
I've been camped out in Squin for like 70 days and I'm running out of space to cram benches into. My guys are moderately huge, and I'm in a pretty good place tech and money wise because of the stealing. I'm mostly looking for a place where wind can do the heavy lifting re: power.

If not there, how's Heng?

Get a guy out there and have him prospect for wind?

From what the comments in the Bast wiki page says, there's no copper near the area.

Everything else seems to be good so if you can mine copper and haul it with you then Bast is probably a decent location.

As far as Heng goes I'm not sure. I've settled just north of there sort of between Stoat and Heft, but I use water mods and had researched hydroponics which made things easier. I do know there's an ore and copper node in one spot with enough flat land to build, but I don't think the water or fertility is very good (but I haven't really checked). It may be worth sending scouts out to take a look (at both locations).

Bast is in constant turmoil. Be prepared for visits from the Holy Nation, United Cities, and cannibals - and that's just daily visits, you have your raids on top of that.

There are four longhouses in Squin you can purchase. They really do not provide enough room?

In my current game I am living out of Squin. I have made all work benches I need, I am tech Level 6. Currently making Black Chainmail, only 1 left to make for the squad of 15. I craft my own bolts. I am crafting MK III weapons. I purchase food from the inns, do not have to worry about farming.

I was able to buy resources from the local markets to get me to where I am. I had not mined a single item until recently when I needed iron ore to make armor plating. The power situation for me has been good. The wind generators in Squin have consistently produced 600 power. At times they drop to around 80, but it does not last long.

I only have 15 characters and 2 wild bulls. Three crafters remain in squin as the others form two caravans to gather needed resources. The needed resources have changed as I have progressed. Currently I am purchasing Steel Bars and Chainmail Sheets.

One caravan is comprised of Greenlanders and Scorchlanders with 1 Wild Bull. Its route is Blister Hill > Stack > Rebel Base> The Hub > Squin.

The second caravan contains Shek and 1 Wild Bull. The route it follows is Admag > Way Station SW of Squin > Squin. Then continues to the Way Station to the far east of Squin > Squin.

Concerning your question about a decent outpost. If you are comfortable in Shek lands, open your map and look SW of Squin, and SW of the Way Station there. You will see an area that might look like a crater or dry lake. That is a nice place to set up. Iron and Copper. Plenty of wind most days.

I like hanging out in Bast, not too sure about building base there though, i rather have a base somewhere in desert or okran valley and travel there.

That area fry my machine if i have a base there. But that's also the area i really like to visit for leveling. More than Ashland.

I could probably make it work if I tried, but I also wanted to give the base building mechanic a shot.

I don't mind the Shreklands, but it's kind of annoying having to babysit anyone I send in the direction of the UC so they don't get stuck on a ledge and default to aimless.

If Bast's a bust I guess I'll go with one of the standbys from a "good base locations" google.

Heng is a great city to start out in. It has two shops that sell 10+ fabric a day, is less of a flustercluck than Sho-Battai, and has better blueprints/shops than most inhabitable cities cities.

The downside is they sell fewer (useful) buildings than Squin, two long houses and a Bug house in trader's edge. Heft has a few storm houses, and outpost IV, at least one tower. and decent shops.

You're just south of rainbow valley. It's a nightmare to wall in your mineral resources, but if you wall in just your kitchen, can tolerate Shek tribute and have 15ish people with combat stats in the 20s, naginatas and decent armor, you don't need walls.
Just be wary of mining the northern ridge, you can aggro beak things from vain...

I usually set up in Stoat when I'm out in the east.

Stoat offers 2 storm houses, 1 step house, 1 longhouse, 1 Y-house, and an possibly an L-house (if you get the right roll to start the game).

You have at least 5 shops to sell goods in not counting the bar or food shop. There's an animal trader that sells wheat straw, green fruit, rice weed and cactus so that you can make food. There's plenty of cotton to buy so that you can make fabric as well as whats sold in the 2 materials shops. There's a police station and a slave shop if that's your thing. It's a pretty good location if you want to build in a town.

edit: Stoat also has a small house for sale that I failed to mention.

I haven't tried Stoat. I left the Great Dessert because of the sand effect being visible indoors and the inevitable giant street brawl between Tech Hunters, bounty hunters, Shinobi, Hive Caravans, and various UC factions in Sho-Battai.

It's profitable when the cops kill pack beast inside your house, it's annoying when you're accused of kidnapping for throwing a dead guard outside, it's a deal breaker when the construction merchant is enslaved and the general goods trader gets killed by hivers AFTER you saved her ass once a day and gave her better gear... RIP Termine.

I like Heng for it's location, it's near gut for eggs/leather and a neutral way station for when you get a bounty/enslaved for some noble wondering in your house and getting mad you didn't move.
