Lockpicking leveling for Ancient safes
Im currently at lockpicking 43 and unable to level anymore on dummies while ancient safes are only 3% success (too low to try). Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a balance fix coming for the new lockpicking mechanic or will I need to download a mod?

A mod isn't necessary, you just have to lock pick other things more to get your skill up.

Also arbitrarily lower your lockpicking skill. I'm not sure what exactly does but I would guess hunger, injuries, encumberance, and artificial limbs? If you lower the skill it takes more attempts and you get more XP off of easier locks.

"you can also train with a cage". Cool, I'll try this and circle back through all the old sites and vendor buildings. It just seems like that high of a lockpicking skill is too steep for the ai cores that are needed for mid/end game research. Lol, I always treated the old skill up system as part of the reward of clearing a tower to make up for the random loot. Maybe they can lower the required level, or make the unreleased SE portion of the map chest heavy.

in my main save i have a base at leviathan coast. i just send newbies to fight in the nearest cannibal village.. if they get knocked out they get thrown in a cage and because they are wounded get penalties (i think) to breaking out..

Also what you can do is at night in cities even if you don't steal unlocking doors and safe .

If you want to play and avoid the cheesy stealing then you need do this.

1. Designate one unit to be your lock picker.
2. Use a locksmith trainer to get to 30 skill.
3. Then you go to a town that has a jail, place yourself in the cage and unlock it until you get 50 skill. If you can find a jail with the poles even better.

Otherwise what will happen is you will clear some ruins be unable to unlock a chest and safe, then have to keep going back later to try again.

The most important thing is do not use multiple units to unlock, this can make your xp even worse due to multiple rolls opening it too early.

Then once you reach 50 lockpicking the whole system goes to @#$% because then you eventually open anything.

go in the night or morning to a slave shop who has many slaves or locked cages and keep lockpicking on top floor of building if the gaurd doesnt show up.

i mostly keep some of my guys on ground floor distracting most of them and then they guy i wane teach lock picking is on upperfloor its not compleetly fool proof but thats fastes way i got my guy around 45 lockpicking.

ather way is picking locks of shops and chests inside the shop but not stealing anything.

i stil need find a way to level thievery in a good way instead of the obvious foolish way. :steamhappy:
