Power is already displayed in the town stats, but it may be a limiting factor as you won't be able to build any more power units in the city. I'm not sure if any batteries you build help in this regard.
It is an entertaining way to play for me. I do not mine any ore as long as I am living in a town. Good challenge.
I also attempted to do what you are typing about once in the Hub. I ran into power issues very soon. I eventually had to build some things outside, west side of town on the plateau. Of course that triggered Dust Bandit and Ninja raids.
To totally live off the city, that city must be well equiped and developed, and not a broken city like the Hub.
My other concern is attack on the city itself.
I guess i cannot control the gate to be closed or open.
Does anyone know other city which offer around 2-3 big building for purchase?
Around 30 characters in 50-60 stats can easily defend Hub and you would be ready for your own outpost almost anywhere.
Mourn is like the other hub. They have numbers of buildings you can buy to rebuild but they have more dangerous wildlife in area. Bandits there are stronger too.
you forgot to mention the big king kong living inside the HQ. lol
btw, i probally will try mourn as it serve as a more challenging base. Will also live off from the bar as my main food source while selling armour plate for cat to buy the food.
Oh, and there's a free source of something that you have to find out yourself :D
I would recommend that if you do this, you use a mod that allows you to build all the needed workstations/growing areas inside a town without them establishing a "Player Base." There are a couple out there, but I don't know which is the best.
Establishing a farm plot outside of town, being sure that it is fairly far outside the town's borders so it won't get "absorbed" by the Town, will start you down the path of "Events" and you won't likely be ready for that.
I always consider basing my group out of the Hub when I'm not planning on building a base. It's got plenty of room and is in a very good location with quick and relatively safe access to several towns/Waystations.
Yes you're right. In my current playthrough the whole thiefs guild got wiped out, except the trader. I had to rescue him a few times lol. If he gets eaten too I will just import my save, so it's not that of a big deal.
I currently have a self sufficient base already, and it get kind of boring. This will provide some challenge and RP. A group of people re-estabilish a town and making it live again instead of a city/base just pop out of nowhere with wall and such. It does not kind of make sense to have the technology and the resource to built it. I choosing this since it more RP sense while.
The north hill is where my "base" is. This is farming and industry with a wall around it. In The Hub is the armory, smithing, research and a ton of storage. I intended just to have farming out there with no walls but a certain type of base raid let them run around stealing food from food storage.
The benefit is if you keep your food in The Hub that doesn't get stolen during raids. If you see that particular faction is scheduled for a raid you can move your food to The hub. That is until your defenses are strong enough to wreck the weak factions that raid in this area.
build your buildings to the north next to the store.
there's room for farms that you will need.
There are materials like iron and copper that you will need
the store owner has also rather high level guards (very useful in case strong enemies occur)
He is also useful to sell copper to, so you can feed your chars at the beginning
i started building there too at my first try (Hub), but quickly realized that it's just a money dump
The elecitrity is not a problem at all... just build a windmill.
i say north of hub served me extremely well... so well... i'm currently at my second run and nearly build at the very same place.
