High end armor has a greater overall impact on survival and skill growth.
Masterwork Armor > Edge 2 weapons.
Also armor masterwork doesn't require research to unlock. Converting Hides into leather is the best way to level it as hides are fairly easy to find/gather/buy and you aren't wasting materials on low end armor.
Once your skill is high, 70+ (higher is better), pump out armor with all the leather you created.
Armorsmmithing is tiered in much better manner Cloth->Leather->Plate->Chain. You don't need to reasearch various stages of refinement
to get it to a profitable state.
In short with armorsmithing you can make cash with Tier 1 recepies, while weaponsmithing is not nearly as profitable and higher tier recepies require MORE and more resources diminishing the profit.
Also you can hold any weapon and do some damage, but you can't win with crap armor.
Masterwork Samurai set is near impenetrable
