how do characters select beds to sleep in?
I have base set up (with plenty of buildings and beds in them) and then quite some distance away lone building I use for training (several prisoner cages, some storage boxes and three beds). Every time someone in the base is wounded (from random bandit raids etc) they all run to use the beds in the training building, completely ignoring all the empty beds in the base (much, much closer)

I tried everything, building more buildings / beds in the base, dismantling all beds and building them in different order (just in case the game cares about that), etc ... nothing works, as soon as there is any bed in the training building everyone is absolutely obsessed by that one coveted bed and ignores the rest

any way to deal with this? only way I can think of is building it even further away ... but if the building is far enough for people in the base not reacting to fights inside, why the hell can't they stay away from the beds there?

You can disable this in the options and send them in the beds you want manually.

I assume it has to do with the order in which objects around the outpost are made. Objects might be given an ID# on a sort of list and the list is referenced everytime the units look for beds. Break those beds down and rebuild 'em.

tried that, several times, with building beds in different orders in different buildings (or parts of base) ... no dice, if there is any bed in the training building it always has priority for some weird reason

in the end I just put couple of camping beds (sleeping bags) in there, it sucks that those have only half of healing speed compared to normal bed but these aren't used automatically (so I don't have to deal with people rushing towards the building and opening the doors every time they receive a scratch)

Not an option?

I don't want to disable automatic sleeping and having to babysit everyone manually (that just adds loads of unnecesasry busywork) ... I just want them to use beds located close to them when there are plenty of those. But for some reason everybody insists on running to that training building mile away.

And there is another problem with sleeping, if wounded idle character goes to sleep on auto control then he gets out of bed when healed ... if you send him to sleep manually then he stays in bed until you again manually tell him to get out of the bed. Even more babysitting.

Meanwhile you need to babysit them so that they instead go in a random bed of your choice, and because you told them to do that, you have to wake them up again.

nope, as a temporary solution to avoid the babysitting I just use sleeping bags in the training building, those are not targeted by auto-sleeping so people in the base don't rush to the training building anymore. Healing modifier 4x instead of 8x kind of sucks, but I can live with that (or I could just mod sleeping bags to 6-8x in FCS if the wait gets too annoying)

I just wonder why the bed targeting works so weird. When people need to ditch resources, they are able to target nearest storage building (with free space) and use that. Same when crafting and they need resources, they get them from nearest storage. Same if they are hungry, they use nearest food storage. But with beds everything goes fubar and the always aim for one bed only, always, regardless how far it is.

I had this happen too. It was beds in an outpost up the mountain. Eventually the changed they're minds though, though it took ages. I just RPed that they got a better sleep up there because it was away from all the industry. I didn't have walls though so it didn't make too much difference. It's weird behavior.
