every piece has certain debuffs that you got to live with
people say samurai armor is the best because its only major debuff is the -8 to melee attack and no dex debuff
But still you need dex for that sweet percentage of att/block speed
Also, don't use heavy shirt (the chainmail). The bonuses are minor and the penalty is massive (way higher than on many armor).
The biggest reason for samurai is simple, you don't have a dex penalty. Des is used for 2 things : attack speed on cut weapons, and block speed on EVERY weapons. As you can imagine, being slow to block can be a real issue. Especially if you use heavy weapons.
See above :) Dex is used to block with every weapons (not only cut). Not having dex on fragment axe user is going to get him killed if he can't get the first blow.
Source, I learned the hard way a long time ago.
Note that Attack Speed caps at 1.20x, so if you hit 1.20x your options open up.
For best effect, I actually think you shouldn't use Meitou or Edgewalker weapons with heavy armor. Catun/MK has higher DPS because you can keep your attack speed quite high.
This, of course, varies with weapons. katana, polearms and other light weapons don't post huge gains compared to heavier weapons.
Samurai Armor, Samurai Plate Pants, Plated Boots, Leather Turtleneck or Chainmail if you have the stats for it, Masked Helmet for versatility, Police/Tin Can/Samurai if you have the stats.
BUT, there are arguments for all sorts of combos involving the above as well as Unholy IF the character in question has the stats or the needs for certain armor. The above is a generic "Heavy Armor" setup.
The Dustcoat/Turtleneck/Drifters is a good combo for light armor. A White Plate jacket is a good choice to slide in there if you want a bit more protection, but you'll likely want to add a decent helmet. Also, Samurai Cloth Pants are a must for light armor users, though some prefer Sneaky Drifter's pants. I prefer the Samurai Cloth for the extra stomach coverage.
Buy what best suits the characters stats and their intended role. With a two character setup, you should be going for one of them being a true DPS tank, likely with a Polearm or Hacker class weapon and the other ranged DPS wtih crossbow and Katana or, possibly, a Short Cleaver.
Pretty much the same for me, except I used the Masked Helmet and keep Fog Masks in their backpacks for bad weather. For me, Coverage is the most important and the lack of a Dex penalty for Samurai is very nice.
IF I had "end game" stats, I might think about having a Taunt Tank in Unholy with Chain and a heavier helmet. "IF" that is... I wouldn't make it a general change, though.
True on the Dustcoat and good call on the Armored Hood, but I don't stroll through Venge much, yet. (My Scraphouse Runner wears a Dustcoat and Iron Hat.)
The downside to the Fog Mask Harpoon Resist is that Fog Mask isn't 100% coverage... That means the possibility of getting one-shotted if one is in a situation where one is stacking for Harpoon Resistance, like a Town assault. Double-plus ungood. :)
Yeah, I don't know why either. The top and sides of the head is exposed, the neck is exposed, the back of the head is exposed... I guess it's the filters in front?
