Problem with wind generator
I'm trying to figure out why I'm not getting any power from my wind generator. My settlement NEVER gets any power from it, apparently.

But it seems to be working fine. Most of the time, the wind strength here is slightly HIGHER than the maximum for the generator. It still shows that the generator is producing maximum power then, but I figured maybe that's why it never showed up in my settlement power figures.

But no, the wind has dropped a bunch now, and the generator says that it's producing only 76% of maximum power. But the settlement is still getting none of that.

The generator is on top of a bluff, right next to the first (and only, so far) building we've constructed, right in the middle of our base. It's definitely not too far away. And I've built a small wind generator nearby which works perfectly.

Unless I'm missing something (which is why I'm asking here), I'll just disassemble it, I guess, and try again.

Oh, one more question on generators, while I'm here: Can I leave my biofuel generator turned on without wasting fuel if we don't need it? My small wind generator produces plenty of power, given that we haven't built much yet. I only built the biofuel generator when the large wind generator didn't work (and I didn't have the parts for the small one).

But the biofuel generator seems to indicate that it's using fuel, even when we don't need the power. For now, I've turned it off, but it will be a pain if I need to keep fiddling with it, depending on how much wind we're getting. Do I?

Can you give us a screenshot of the UI with the wind turbine selected? It might give us some insight of what's going on.

As far as the generator goes, it'll drain power equal to the percentage of the power being used. So if you are using 10% of your total power it'll drain at a 10% rate.
With that being the case I think you'll most likely want to go looking into batteries which just store eccess power and turn on when there is a power shortage.

I have built small windmills only for my power needs, lots of them. Along with lots of batteries too so I can store the energy for calmer times. This setup has more than covered my power needs for huge towns with all machinery running at the same time.
The big winmills aren't reliable enough so I've only recently built a few of those here & there for aesthetics.
I don't bother with fuel generators either as they're simply not needed & are just another job that is simply a waste of time putting a squad member on.

OK, here's a screenshot of the wind turbine: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1235961097

Everything looks fine as far as I can tell. It's working. It's producing 38 units of power (76% of capacity). But you can see that we've only got a total of 25 power in the base (all from the small generator you can see on the left side of the picture, since I turned off the biofuel generator).

There's always wind here. The larger wind generator would work great... if it actually gave us any power. But it never does anything at all. (It does turn. It LOOKS like a working generator.)

And yes, we've just now researched batteries. I haven't even looked to see what is required to build them, because whatever it is, I know we don't have it. But we'll get to it.

PS. Note that I've already dismantled the generator (most of the construction supplies ended up on the side of the cliff where we can't get to it), so I don't suppose that any of this matters now.

And this is far from the only thing that hasn't been working right, and it's not the most annoying. But if you can spot something I did wrong, or that I just don't understand, I'd appreciate the instruction.

Definately something wrong there then.

Try shift+F12, then click "fix stuff" button, then click exit on that same popup.
Try ctrl+shift+F11
Then save game & reload (or import, don't forget to check the option to import research & buildings if importing)

This is what I would try, whether that fixes anything I don't know but worth a shot. ;o)

i had the same problem but in World's end where i have a small shack to stock stolen things where sometime the windmill of the city would produce 0 even though there is definitvly wind, they don't rotate they says that there is enough wind but produce 0 save and reload usulaly did the trick or leaving the city and come back once i got far enough for the city to get unloaded

I dismantled the wind generator, then later built another one at almost the same location. That one works fine. So, who knows?
