Otherwise, anywhere in Stobe's Garden is fun, though be prepared for the Crab Tournaments if you go there. They're fun and you get an alliance out of it if you beat the four rounds :)
There's also great locations just west of the fog islands, right on the border with the Shrieking Forest. Look for a huge concentration of iron wrecks, there's all the resources you could need, though you'll have fog running around the place and occasional cannibal raids, so... yeah, easy enough to kill, but tend to be a lot of 'em.
Alternatively, go ALL the way southwest to Shun, no major factions, good locations in flat lands, and two big towns nearby for selling to. Plus all the ruins to plunder.
Shun is a great location, but you'll have wandering skin spider groups to deal with. They're not too bad generally (better than blood spiders), and it's a solid location overall. And being close to Drifter's Last and Clownsteady (and Catun if you run a bit further east) means plenty of sales potential.
The ground has arid and green, so you can build vegetables farm also, so you can make food cubes.
The most dangerous threatening is gorillos and beak things, but can be dealt by kiting them to the village drones. Sometimes they just got slaughtered by soldier drones before you even notice.
Then most challenging bandit is black ninjas, but if you build your post near enough to village then when they start knock your gates, the hive drones will be alarmed and intervene, then leave you some pretty nice ninja swords. Also there're dust bandits and hungry bandits but no real deal. Be careful to check your yards before you close your gate, since some curious drones may wandering into your post and get trapped, may result hostile attack. Also turrets and ranged weapon were not recommended for post defence guards since you can friendly fire upon helping drones resulting very unfriendly consequences.
Also there are iron sites and a lot of coppers around, just inspect and plan ahead, then enjoy your wealth.
Because the location is in Vain, then there will be forever red rain(not acid rain, no negative effect to game characters), which may hurt your eyes, so Reduced Weather Effect mod is highly recommended.
The positive about the rain is you never need to water your farms, save a lot of hauling labor.
ps-, The Hivers love Grog, I get a 10%+ overprice for grogs in my game. Now can make 50k trade profit every one to two days. Not sure if the price was random generated or a pre scripted thing.
Also, water hauling is still useful simply because it trains strength/athletics REALLY fast if you have your water storage at the other end of the base to the wells.
And prices are randomised on new game and import, and vary per region. The range is 0.75 to 1.25 iirc, but that can easily be edited in the FCS. I've got it set to a 50% range (0.5 to 1.5), so sometimes I can get lucky and be selling CPU cores for 7k a piece... but sometimes I can be paying that same amount for skelly repair kits in a skelly run, which can be painful, heh.
What's the deal with that? I NEED to set up Killzones for bandits and future wars with nations.
While Fog Islands themselves are pretty deadly for very low level characters, the outpost there is easy to defend and has plenty of resources for most of your needs.
Soil is perfect for wheat as well. In terms of farming - the only drawback is low amount of water, so you will need to spam wells a bit.
In terms of defending the location - fogmen are easy to kill but come in big numbers. Still - should be easy enough to defend and fogmen themselves are a rather nice training fodder.
They also come with another bonus - they are extremely hostile to the point that they will either weaken or even outright kill any raid coming to your base - and from my experience - these will be mosly cannibals. And if you care to hunt the Fog Princes... That is just another cash bonus for you.
When it comes to selling grog itself - Mongrel is a good location with plenty of shops - you should be able to sell well over 100k cats worth of booze there.
Other locations - this is where the problems begin - several hive villages are nearby so there is that, mostly. Some Holy Nation posts are also rather close.
For your traders to be safe during travels - they need to be able to run more than 18mph in order to outrun the fogmen, however, so there is that.
Map of raid zones.
Cannibal country in the North East has no taxes.
If you place the outpost on the border with swamp you could probably grow hemp and swampers will love your cactus rum.
