Has anyone ever made a base in the South Wetlands before?
Because I may have found a usable location for making one if anyone has never done so before.

This location is 100% swamp so riceweed and hemp grow very well here. Swamp turtles roam neaby in large groups to give meat. Water is overabundant here. Ricebowls will be the main food source.

As for money generation you can rely on farming for sake or hemp or you can make armor and weapons with the multiple steel nodes nearby. Clownsteady, Shark and Catun are the nearest cities to sell off your product.

This location has 50% quality stone, so buildup and expansion should be relatively slow here. There are no copper nodes immediately nearby, but there are some within walking distance.

As for enemies, this is under United Cities jurisdiction: you will have to pay their taxes or face their wrath. Swamp Ninjas, blood spiders, swamp raptors and swamp turtles are some of the common wildlife found in the area.

I know there is almost never any "perfect" settlement spot but I think the pros outweigh the cons with this one. Anyone else want to add anything about this location or got any questions about it? I'm going to start building up a base later today once I get enough building supplies scrounged up.

Hi. You'll get raided by Sabres/Stone Rats shakedowns/Band of Bones. I am not sure but Beak things from the Crater will have a go. Least they used to last when I built there. Slavers & UC tax collectors will come. Also all your types above. Still need hydrophonics for green fruit. No winds but hemp base generator will do excellent. Good luck & have fun.

I think my group is strong enough to withstand most of those enemies. I have a full 30 man group and 400k worth of cats in savings. As long as I keep my two garru out of the fray it shouldn't be anything I can't handle. The weakest people in my group have stats in the 20s-30s. The average is 50-60 with my main guy and Izumi pushing 70s in martial arts.

My main concern is the tax collector. This would end up being my second base that I am setting up. I am trying to make this base a staging area for hemp farming while also having weapon making as a back up. I still want to be able to explore and should the tax man come when I am away would that cause the United Cities to see me as hostile? I can handle the wildlife and minor factions but the major ones I want to stay on their good side a little longer. I have the cats to pay, I just don't want to be tied down to the one location and always have someone there to pay off the tax man at all times.

If you don't pay tax, UC would send tax enforcement assault to your base. If you kill them all, it won't affect your reputation with UC or at least very small percentage that's not noticeable.

I've killed them many times and they were still neutral, it became annoying cuz tax enforcement kept sending medium size army that their npc in coma kept adding up on ground. So I attacked one of UC nobles to turn them hostile then they stop sending tax enforcement and started sending elite hunters instead which is better cuz they're smaller group and they get up fast enough to retreat. But stats of elite hunters are in around 70-80s and all wield guardless katanas. Your characters need to be ready to handle them first, so you may need to deal with tax enforcement for awhile, easier to take down tho unless you have very good killbox set up with 30+ turrets.
