If you're using workshop mods would I recommend taking the mod to your mod folder within your main folder. Makes navigating easier and it shouldn't get overwriten when the mod updates.
Editing a mod in the FCS is really as easy as opening them in the way I descriped and changing whatever values you want to change.
My personal modding knowledge is here maybe too limited but I don't know what the problem could be.
Basically this got me started with the type of FCS editing of mods OP asking for:
https://kenshi.fandom.com/wiki/Forgotten_Construction_Set
https://kenshi.fandom.com/wiki/Introduction_to_Modding
It isn't difficult, just be patient, read it all first, then go back and follow the guides step-by-step. Do something simple first. AND ALWAYS BACK UP FILES AND SAVE GAMES!
233860 is Kenshi's app id - the number is different for other games.
Generally best to move Workshop mods from there into your actual game's installation folder, and then to unsubscribe. Modders can and sometimes do release gamebreaking changes, and it you're relying on subscribed copies, the automatic download system will cause you grief.
Note that mod folders in Kenshi's own "mods" directory need to be renamed to exactly match their titles.
