I just had the best experience as a slave
So i have never actually used the slave game start before but after what happened it has got to be my favourite start.

It started out as normal letting my 2 people be slaves during the day and at night i would train my lockpicking, stealth and other skills, i had 1 failed attempt at freedom with some random prisoner.

Now as i was training my thief skill because i was going to try escape by disguising myself, it made me wonder what actually makes a slave, so after i stole some boots from a guard i decided to put my shackles on him to see what would happen.

After doing this i noticed that he had the escaped slave tag but i thought maybe this wasn't enough so i tried to give him my clothes as well but that failed and i got caught but the funny thing is after the guards put me back in the cage, the other guard enslaved the one with my shackles as well so now there is a holy guard sitting in the cage next to me.

By far my best experience with this game.

i had the best experiences WITH slaves too . the Stack prison got filled up with slaves . Dust bandits and hungry bandits . a caravan started from the prison, with slavemongers, i guess to rebirth.
but...they didn´t make it out of Stack. the mongers fighted the HN guards , got a bounty of 500 and went to prison themselves ;) that was a nice look .
their slaves now were lying around or standing idle. and did not belong to HN . guess what i did then;)

That's pretty funny

Haha that's pretty cool, so in the end you were the slave master.

2 dusties and 1 hungry bandit leader are now free people in my reign

Very cool story! I think the game is capable of doing a lot of fun scenario like this, it just gets in the way of itself.

The slave start is great. You get to train the entire thievery skill group in the single safest place in the world on two characters. Can't imagine why it is considered a "hard" start.

I liked unlocking my shackles and placing them in my inventory. The guards would then helpfully provide me with a new pair, without confiscating the old. Repeat several times, and now you're way above your carrying capacity, waddling around at 1 mph, training your Strength and Athletics as opposed to sitting next to a rock doing little useful.

Also, your fellow slaves make excellent training dummies for assasination.

This made me try starting as a slave... and I admit, I don't get it. I just kept getting my ass kicked by the guards over and over. Standing around? Ass kicked. Mining? Ass kicked. Trying to run back to my cage? Ass kicked. Break out? Ass kicked.

You might of turned off your jobs. When your a slave the game auto creates a job, something along of the lines of obedient slave. If you character deviates from the auto job, you are considered escaping and the nearby guard will beat the crap out of you and put you in a cage. The thing about this start that makes it the best though is the fact that they provide you with free food and free medical treatment. You can continue to get beaten up and get your toughness skill up, then get healed right afterwards. Once night falls you can break out and steal stuff, sneak around, try to stealth ko people, etc before you are caught and gain more toughness getting beaten up. Daytime break out and fight for more skill/toughness. Night time break out and train stealth skills, then fight when you get caught. Keep going till you can literally steal the clothes and armour off the npcs sleeping.

If you want to do slave start the fast way, immediately run and hide behind the nearby rock mine. Proceed to lockpick your shackles. Then wait 24 hours until your recently escaped expires. Then walk out the front door. The chance of them recognizing you at this point is near zero, so you can be brazen about it. I recommend this method if you don't want to lose your hair at the start of the game.

Haha embrace Narko's whispers before the vile Okran turns your brain to mush.

Oh yeah i completely forgot about raising strength while there, i couldn't really train assassin on the slaves though since i was RPing the Rebirth Rebels aka repeatedly raiding Rebirth to free the slaves.

I managed to get both of my people out now though using disguises and i've allied the flotsom ninjas. Now to begin my raids and hopefully get slaves to join me, also "recondition" some guards to also help me.

....Then what's the point of doing the slave start?

Oh, I did that RP as well, but some of the slaves are jerks, and won't break out with you if you free them. I pretended they were snitches and considered them fair game. XD

Well, I thought the point of doing the slave start was the game claims it's supposed to be hard. But if you're looking to make the most of it, yeah, using it to train up is a good idea.

Unlocking the shackles moves them to your inventory?
