Training Crossbows
How is experience gained when it comes to crossbows?

Tooltip says "using crossbows and ranged weapons"

Does that mean any time spent reloading and aiming is also giving experience or is it an injection of experience on hit with the weapons?

Aka, would it be smarter to get a faster firing crossbow that may miss more, than a stronger slower one with better accuracy?

I've found a couple masterwork and specialist eagles cross, and I want to train my crossbow skill..

I'm curious if I should invest in some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ fast firing ones, or just use the eagles cross?

I have 11 Crossbowmen (temporarily few are disable because of missing limbs lol). All of them use toothpicks as i am about to reserach crossbow and better bolt making. I manage to kill robot spiders with them easily

Fire rate shouldn't affect XP rate

Ok, aweosme, thanks for the answer..

I did some quick tests in game but I couldn't see any connection to fire rate and xp earned, but I wanted to ask to be sure..

On a side note, any news on a hotfix for the autosave?

EDIT: Nevermind, it's fixed now (for me)

Keep in mind ammo availability, if you are buying ammo everything but Regular ammo is in short supply. A super fancy Eagle's Cross is fun but only if you can keep in Longs which only get 10 shots to the bundle

I just changed some of my junkbows and toothpicks into 1 eagle cross, 1 regular and few springbats as i have just looted some extra bolts. gotta see if there is any way to speed up the training. Wish there were dummies

Lvl 15 in crossbows, 55%, Using Eagle Cross. Got to 60% until fired, Meaning you get exp by actively using crossbow (Reloading, shooting), and not for the hits. This means it doesnt matter which Xbows are used.

Yea, that is what i found as well I just wanted to confirm with others so I wasn't missing something :)

Thanks everyone

And yes, I wish there were dummies for all the stats, at least to like 25 or so..

Hi, I'm at 81, accruracy is 40. I got there by skimming at night with the Tengu Vault guards. 160 days into the game. Bare in mind not all those days was spent at Tengu. Made some nice money in the process. Great place to go to beef up your bow stats. Mongrel is a close second. Go to the baracks long house. Take position on the upper level, shoot Fogmen as they come to feed on anyone in the two cages. It's fun ! Who wants to shoot dummies & not get paid? Boring !

Haha, I'll have to try that!

What does the "Skill required" number mean in a crossbow's stats? Clearly it has nothing to do with whether a character is allowed to equip and use the weapon or not. My shooters started with 0 skill and using bows saying 60, 70, or even 80 "skill required", and seem to do just fine and level up with them. They do miss a lot still, although hit often enough to be effective in combat. Does the "skill required" number indicate the level a character has to be in order to reach the desired end of the various stat ranges? i.e., fastest reload, highest damage, etc?

I was wondering why my skeleton was getting so high in skill without firing.

I was wondering that too

Your example makes the most sense i think, unless the crossbows are supposed to have minimum required skill to even be equippable (but isn't implemented)

From what I've learned spending time reloading and aiming gives skill experience, you don't actually need to fire..
