Best base locations or biomes for farms? (that are not the swamp)
I'm relatively new to the game and I have been in the border zone for almost my entire playtime. I went all the way to the wetlands once and that was pretty dope but I didn't find many cities on the way besides some swamp city.
Seeing how I now have a kind of larger group I want to settle down for a change and the houses I bought in the cities I usually do my reasearch in are becoming to small to actually manufacture stuff.

I want to build a base relatively close to a town or outpost so I have a trader nearby and I want to start actual farm with Iron and copper nearby. I'm not a huge fan of the wetlands or swamp at all. The wildlife is scary and the ground looks kind of boring and I'm kind of colorblind for green and red which makes it harder for me to actually see stuff on the ground when it's dark green.

Long story short:
Are there lush biomes that allow farming, preferable rice, and which would be suitable for basebuilding and aren't racist towards skeletons because I have one in my party?

I recently built a base due south of the Waystation east of The Hub. It's pretty easy to find, there's a bunch of Iron/Copper there, and it looks like a lot of water has flowed down from there into the Swamp.

You can farm Rice closer to the Swamp, but not be in it. As it is with most biome borders. You'll get raids from Dust Bandits still, and Shopping Trips from Swampers. Plus a fairly regular influx of Skins from Raptors trying to come eat your farms. I get occasional Red Sabres pathing by as well, but don't seem to be any actual raids.

My suggestion is to have your base overlap over 2 biomes, or the regions just south of the swamp should be a swamp and green mix. There are skin spiders south of the swamp and beak things to the east though, but those are the better biomes to have your base overlap (comed with a price).

There's a place called the Gut, it has beak thing but good for farming.

XD Please don't send a new player to such a horrible place, especially when they do not have a squad of strong characters. Without them this game tends to kick your ass in really really hard for new players building a base for the first time.

The southeastern portion of the Fog Islands is pretty great. The tops of several of the plateaus have 100% fertility (dry climate so unfortunately no rice, but you can use hydroponics to grow rice once you research it) and water, 120% iron and copper nodes and there is a constant wind blowing through the area so you can maximise power output with a handful of small wind turbines. The base of the plateaus tend to have 100% stone as well, so all important materials are covered. You can get as much meat and animal skins as you want or need from Vain.

You have easy shopping with Mongrel, several Holy Nation cities and Western Hive villages nearby.

You'll have to deal with the occasional wandering group of 20 to 50 fogmen trying to bash down your gates, but if you set up your defenses properly they aren't a problem at all.

The only real downside to the area is that it can get a bit boring once you're properly settled because you don't get raid events from any bandit groups or the usual suspects. The threat of the fog keeps most bandits (and generally speaking, Holy Nation patrols and events as well) out of the area. The only humans you'll see in the area are small bands of Holy Nation Outlaws... which you can eventually max reputation with by freeing them from fog poles (also an easy way to get free recruits).

Shem is pretty nice. It's NE of the Swamp, or go SE from the Hub, via the waystation. It's all sand and pools of water. If you stick your base close enough to the Swamp then you will be able to grow everything except greenfruit. Wheat and cactus in Shem, hemp and rice in the Swamp. Enemies are starving bandits, band of bones, dust bandits and beak things. Sometimes you get blood spiders and ninjas. You can use the water in your defences. You have Shek towns to the NW and Tech Hunters (Flat's Lagoon) to the SE. Making drugs and selling in Flats makes a ton of money (the route there is infested with beak things though).

I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even start farming anything but wheat until I have hydroponics researched. I’d much rather have a base in an area I like, rather than settling for something less. That beating said, the border of Shem and the Swamp isn’t a bad option.

Everyone suggested somewhere near the swamp, but this game has more greenish places than that, and got towns for trade nearby too. Even the area near the crab town is better than near the swamp or whatever border. The eastern map section near the hive villages is good for farming, and you get to quickly buy enough lanterns for the whole party too, but again like I said about The Gut, there is beak things(you can lead them to the village). I think the Leviathan coast has good plots of land for rice too, but then there are some dreaded leviathans there (they are easily stuck and can be chiseled with crossbows). The area surrounding Flotsam village is safe and greenish, and you can trade with the village or the town whatiscalled world edge or something.

There are many places, you could find the best one with a fast Drone with high running speed.

By the way, I think the Gut is the most beautiful biome on the planet. Don't mind a few beak things (they can be thinned by destroying their nest) there. Remember to check it out if you can.

near deadcat town, the land is fertile there and you get copper and Iron, you can sell your stuff at world end and the deadcat town...also holy nation will not go there unless you are at war with them, so all you need to worry about are bone dogs and cannibals

I agree. It’s pretty sweet looking. I just moved my base to a location I’m starting to dislike already. I think maybe I’ll take a run to the Gut again and scope it out.
