"Selling to merchant" job
Is there a way to do this? To make running to a merchant to sell goods a job? I've been doing it manually with me and one companion, but I'd like to set that companion to mine copper, run to sell it, repeat. Then later when I'm smithing weapons and armor to have someone do the same: run to a merchant and sell the goods my smith is making.

I'm not 100% on this, but in the default game it isn't possible. The devs said something along the lines of making it 100% automation would take the point out of the game and turn it into a money making simulator. Which you can do but with some manual aspects. What I suggest is setting up a shop front and downloading a mod that improves shopping economy, can't think of what it is of the top of my head so I apologise.

But in the long run, there is no way to automate a job to sell to merchants.

The closest I've gotten to this is building copper and iron storage containers in the building next door to a merchant so the miners will automatically fill them and then selling straight from the storage container. It's also not a bad idea to buy a pack beast of some kind to carry your stuff for selling. With this, I can wait until I have 100's of goods to sell before I have to make a merchant run to a large city.

Yeah that's also what I tend to float towards doing, but in reference to OP's question that is the closest you're gonna get to automation without external mods.

Since it requires dialog choices, it is not possible on the vanilla game, at least.
It should also be noted, that money really ceases to be an issue at/after midgame.
