New player question: Hauling Building Materials for building ?
Hey !

How does one haul building materials to a building site when you need 16 for a small house and your inventory only fits like 3 ?

They haul 3, add it to the building, build as much as they can with those 3, then go get 3 more.

Repeat until the job is done.

Oh yes indeed! You dont need to drop the items on the site, you add them to the construction.

Thanks !

The best thing to do is invest in a Merchant Back pack - The merchant back pack can stack items - it can stack Building mats to 9 and can fit 2 slots of 9.

You can add materials one by one to the building until it has enough for a particular stage of construction, then the building will begin. Early on you'll have to get used to carrying only a few per trip and building up that way.

Later on when you're homesteading and set up properly and producing your own building materials from stone, with a hauling job set up to haul that to storage containers etc, things will get a little easier.

Shift clicking a structure for building will add the "Engineering" job to that character, and they will automatically fetch resources needed from the various specific storage containers (not general storage) without any of the fiddling and inventory woes you might have to deal with, assuming they have the space.

Yes though as others have pointed out, backpacks. They do different things, with different pros and cons, but for travelling and moving resources around, the Merchant / Trader backpack is the best, with most stack potential and room etc. Give your non-combatant laborers those to ease their burdens.
