Town guards do (usually) heal prisoners when they aren't too busy.
As long as 1 arm is still usable it can be used to apply heals.
It would be wise to armor up the stomach & chest. The head if possible too.
Bleeding to death is less a threat with decent armor over the vitals.
Playing dead can be very helpful to avoid losing a fight too hard to recover.
1 easy method to playing dead is to have your unit (if still standing) remove 1 robotic leg.
This will cause them to fall over & play dead if in a dangerous situation.
Do not play dead near flesh eating animals.
It would also (even if you don't wan't to) be wise to keep a healer some where nearby.
They don't need to help fight so just keep them distant/hidden & on passive.
When you lose a fight have the healer of your squad come out of hiding & patch up.
