Turret guards won't eat
My turret guards are starving themselves. How do I get them to leave their posts and go fetch some food to eat? Thanks.

I have the same problem sometimes. Mine usually eventually do but sometimes they wait way too long. My current solution is just to put a breadbox nearby them. Worst-case scenario it's easier to manually feed them this way.

I think sometimes they get stuck in "combat" which stops them from breaking to eat.

Solution to this is to use skeletons if you need permanent gunners, even hives since I never had trouble with hives going hungry before. Or if you're having river raptor problems, build hydroponics indoors without crops outside. Or build a base in zone that doesn't have river raptors. While my main base is in gut, I never need anyone at turrets, I only put characters on turret job when there's assault force approaching nearby then remove their turret job after gunning em all down. Sheks, Scorchlander, and greenlanders are poor choices for being permanent gunners, even I had food container filled with food nearby. They still can be gunners only for temporary which is fine.

This is a recurring bug

0.91.9
-Turret guards can now go and get food too

0.98.32
-Turret gunners should feed themselves properly now

Are you assigning them turret duty as a job, or simply telling them to man the turret? Manning the turret will lock them to it without an ai component.

I'm setting jobs by shift-right-clicking on the turrets.

I had a person fall unconscious due to lack of food.

That's true dedication to a job. (Or an idiot).

Make sure you fix the navmesh (ctrl+shift+f11). Something may've gotten borked in the pathing.

Weird I presed the 3 buttons but nothing happened in my game.

Pretty sure it's a pathing problem. I have the same case of my turret guy not eating, but as it turns out he's just stuck up there. He won't/can't move anywhere. After I tell someone to pick him up and drop him off away from the turret, he went to get his own food.

Two things on this: 1) It's critical to fix the navmesh after you build a wall to make sure your dudes can get up & down off the ramps. Otherwise this will probably happen. 2) I'd try to stick a food barrel in a convenient location for the troops to get it at it. If you do it right, the same barrel can act as bait for a secondary kill box inside your walls.

If all else fails, put a Shinobi backpack full of food cubes on them. Why Shinobi? Because minimum impact to combat skills.

Thanks I will try that out.

Also, my cooks automatically put the chewsticks in a food barrel near them. How do I automatically transport the food to a second (and third, fourth, etc.) barrel near my turrets?

So what you can attempt to do is to shift+click on the stove, and then shift+click on the barrel you want them to transport the materials to. That MIGHT work. However, that only works for 1 storage container, until that container is full, at which point the priority will shift to the next barrel. That's alot of chew sticks!

If you plan to have a series of food barrels, your best bet is to have a dude with a wooden trader's backpack manually do a food delivery every couple of days.

My turret guards are doing it again. This time though, they are so weak they are passing out and dropping to the ground. When this happens, other followers pick them up and carry them to bed. But then they stand up again and start heading back to the turrets. Except they are still too weak, so they drop again and need to be picked up and carried back to bed. This repeats in an endless loop.

Rebuild the walls they're on? Maybe there's a terrain glitch that's popping up from time to time. If not, then just CTRL SHIFT F11 from time to time when your base is in focus.

Putting a food barrel nearby, within their fairly large range, might help if they can "Stop Turreting" for a moment. Walking a character who has a backpack full of food, like khemeher suggested, might work well, too.

Do you have "Fire First, Ask Questions Later" enabled? If so, maybe try untoggling it to see if that helps fix any behavior issues. Maybe they're stuck trying to fire at a distant target you can't currently see, yourself?

What does their current task description say?

1. I rebuilt the walls and used CTRL SHIFT F11 since the last time this happened. The characters have no problems moving on/off the walls when manually ordered to. Enemy AI is even able to walk up there.

2. There are nearby food barrels already.

3. "Fire First, Ask Questions Later" is not enabled.

4. Task description says "Unconscious" or "Turret Guard".

I moved the turrets off the walls and on top of the buildings. Let's see if this will fix it.
