Food is something you should have in mind from the beggining, the rest is up to you.
EDIT: Never, i say NEVER, go to the up north of the map (after the flooded biome) too early, you will regret this decision hehe.
Try ♥♥♥♥ ;)
Kenshi tends to receive criticism for being shallow. My opinion is, so is the fore-mentioned toy box but jeez I had a lot of fun as a kid. I think Kenshi caters for the imaginative. Those looking for a storyline or a linear hand held experience may not find the same enjoyment.
Take your box of toys, you can absolutely raze a city to the ground. You can kinda do that in Kenshi. Now let's say you want to declare yourself the new leader of that city. You can definitely do that with your toybox, but Kenshi has a prescripted takeover (and it's not you), and you can absolutely forget about any hopes you may have of helping rebuild the city...
Maybe I should have included a sibling who wouldn't play how I wanted to in my analogy
There's a lot of possibilities, but since it's very much a sandbox game, the best thing to do is just let the game's world carry you until you decide you wanna do X or Y specific thing.
