You don't need a pickaxe (this isn't minecraft, lol) you eat automatically if there's food in your inventory. What do you want to do? Do that.

Well, this game is designed with freedom im mind so there is no a specific objective in this game, but the common thing here is to have money so mine some ore veins and sell it or have some fight with low level guys (like some stranded bandits) near an outpost so you can train yourself without too much danger, get his weapon and sell it.
Food is something you should have in mind from the beggining, the rest is up to you.

EDIT: Never, i say NEVER, go to the up north of the map (after the flooded biome) too early, you will regret this decision hehe.

I love that fact, that you haven't even tried right clicking on an iron, copper or stone node and just assumed you needed a pick axe xD

Try ♥♥♥♥ ;)

i have 5 basics for you to help get you in. 1. run 2. keep it simple if it has too many numbers doing too many things use/gather (said weapon/armor/rescource/food rescipe/building) that dont until you get the feel for things. 3. get a wooden box backpack with water and put multiple of them full in your inventory and back ect. and run around town to train strength also dont leave town until your movment speed is 20. 4. scavange from things guards kill helps if you have your nests set to at least 3. 5. run

I went there recently, and I regret it. Big black cloud in the desert nearly killed my entire squad. Also, there was some kind of military base that killed my squad for trespassing.

Basically think of Kenshi as toy box full of soldiers, plastic buildings, castles and campsites. That's basically it. How you play with what's in the virtual toy box is entirely up to you. Like a box of toys also, it won't show you what your goals should be.

Kenshi tends to receive criticism for being shallow. My opinion is, so is the fore-mentioned toy box but jeez I had a lot of fun as a kid. I think Kenshi caters for the imaginative. Those looking for a storyline or a linear hand held experience may not find the same enjoyment.

The difference is the toybox is only held back by your imagination. Kenshi gets held back by things not being implemented in the game (hence the 'shallow' criticism).

Take your box of toys, you can absolutely raze a city to the ground. You can kinda do that in Kenshi. Now let's say you want to declare yourself the new leader of that city. You can definitely do that with your toybox, but Kenshi has a prescripted takeover (and it's not you), and you can absolutely forget about any hopes you may have of helping rebuild the city...

Maybe I should have included a sibling who wouldn't play how I wanted to in my analogy :steamhappy:. Yes, those features should have been added.

Yeah, I think adding in a sibling who doesn't want to play how you want would've made it a more perfect analogy. ;)

My short answer is... Start playing. Play it as though you just woke up in a foreign land, stomach rumbling, in another place and time. Once you play it long enough, it just sort of "clicks" as your brain says "Okay, yeah, this is what I wanna do in this game."

There's a lot of possibilities, but since it's very much a sandbox game, the best thing to do is just let the game's world carry you until you decide you wanna do X or Y specific thing.
