One of many posts of "What is the best town to live in"
I sadly cant find them but im sure im one of many. Okay with basic Kenshi and some simple mods such as : decrease cpu useage, faster bed healing and map borders added - stuff like that nothing that changes buildings or map parts or adds factions. what is the better towns to live in from the start? Better in the sense decent shops, better housing, better location to get at other areas of the map and few mines nearby to start profit off of.

kinda thing..

Squinn and Heng are popular for these cuz certain starts usually begin in or nearby both towns.

I always find myself in Stack for the start-up if not hated by HN. I think it has to do with the amount of bulls you can provoke into the guards for a quick cash injection and it's central to loads of the early game stuff you need, with 4/5 other cities an easy trek away.

I like to start out in mongrel, sadly only possible via modding

I prefer to start in Squinn or Admag because they are both in relatively safe area's and both have good local resources, plus the Shek Kingdom is the only major faction i like.

Personally I find the best town to be Sho-Battai for starting at.

Pros:
Copper deposit right outside the gate
Iron by the walls
Bakery
Hat Shop
Samurai guards to run baddies into(Skimmers come around often and are good money.)
Heng/Heft are easy runs for weapons/armor
Howler's Maze/None(Islands nw of Howlers)/Gut for the easiest outpost areas
Cannibal Hunter's base in the NE for farming Cannibals semi-safely

Cons:
Slavers are probably gonna to try and catch you
Noble Hunter might snipe you for sport
City "Heroes" will give you crap and might attack you

I used Admag. It has number of ore nodes for minning, enough different vendors who dont run out of money and constant patrols who sometimes help taking our raiders. Only problem it doesnt have robot part vendors so if someone loses their limbs i gotta send peope out to get it.

For me, Stack is best for early game. Surrounded by villages and towns. With 3 Iron and 2 Copper resources near the gates. Just stay neutral with UC and HN first. Once your Thievery Skills reached 30, you would have million of cash in just few days. :steamhappy:

As sayed above - Squin. 4 longhouses to buy (2 of them collapsed), many shops, good amount of free power, 3 copper nodes for 5 peoples near left gates. And near this copper nodes i meet only wandering starving bandits and bone wolfs. Just buy collapsed longhouse near left gates, repair it and put copper ore storage in it. There enough shops to buy 200-300 copper ores per day (maybe more, not tried it myself)
If you have small squad without skeletons and researched hydroponics - Bad Teeth. It have well III and buyable small shack near collapsed longhouse, rain and free power. If you buy and repair it, you will get a fully automatic base.
I built a water tank, 6 hydroponics (2 rice, 3 greenfruit and 1 hemp for cloth to train armorer on clothing bench), cooking stove, barrels for rice/greenfruits/food and 7 rain collectors on theroof. Fill the water tank manually from the well, then set the tasks to one character gather water from all rain collectors to water tank, one on all farms and one to cook gohan (same nutrition value as foodcube and not need grain silo, but need x1.5 more space in storage box). Then left my squad (6 people) for +/-8 hours. When i returned - all storages, include food storage and water tank, were full.

the hub is actually not far from many cities so it is unlikely that you will be running short on supply and you can get faction hq building in the hub, I usually turn the hub into my capital and food production factory because of this. In addition to that the hub is also located at one of the safest spot in the world of kenshi.

I agree The Hub is a nice starting location. It has plentiful copper nodes and several iron nodes. It's also a short trip to several Towns and Waystations. And, it's relatively safe, with only Bandit types, the occasional slaver group and some bonedogs in the region. With plenty of buildings for purchase, it's a nice "Town Base" kind of place.

But, what's this about making it your "capital?" What are you talking about, there? Turning it into your "base?"

Just checking to be sure they didn't change something in-between my playthroughs. :)

Though the location has none of your desired charcateristics, Mourn is by far and wide the most profitable for a new start.

The only issue is getting out of mourn with all the gathered loot^^(actually not even true, go straight to flat's lagoon)

you won't spend money, won't fight in mourn, you'll just gather high to specialist armor everytime a giraffe horde drops by.
That and eggs.

In a week you can get well over 150K and fully equiped(up to late game worth of gear)

All you need is
#1: People who wont attack you
#2: People who will/can defend you.
At least if your new player like me.

yes it is just my base...my main base
Gawdfather Feb 13, 2020 @ 9:46pm
My first base is to get enslaved, then make their lives hell until I can kill everyone there.

I escape and whoever survives my escape with me is my new crew.

At that point my dude is hard as rock and rips people's limbs off with impunity.

I then go around murdering Slaver towns.

Then I go around murdering everyone else.
