Swamp homes: Cheesy?
I ducked into the swamp on the run from the law and swiftly discovered a village with only 4 living people, and a lot of unworked rice fields. I supposed that since it doesn't upset anyone to work the fields, and the steal rate is 100%, you could just purchase one of the tiny homes and make an unlimited supply of food there. The same would appear to go for Shark nearby, but with the added bonus of Hemp fields present too. The only downside I can see is that you can't auto haul from the fields, so it could become tedious.

I guess my question for others here is.. do you feel this sort of thing is a bit cheesy? Was this even intended to be possible? I had always figured homes in a town to be fairly useless much of the time, other than maybe being able to ditch some items to storage or to have a free bed, but this seems like a signigicant step up. Well, aside from a lack of space anyway. Those residentials are rather tiny, for their price.

Now you are stuck defending a town of 4 from the local blood spider population. I'll pass!

For whatever reason the blood spiders wont come close. At least, not that I saw. Good point though. I deliberated attempting to stay and decided to just keep up the nomadic lifestyle for a while.

Oh, yeah, I can imagine a lot of worse stuff. I always felt like being able to pick a fight in the Hub and get the guards there to kill everything was bad enough. It seems like the AI just attacks whomever started it, but if it results from a stealth KO attempt, dialogue, or running them in from a hundred yards out, they just don't care. You're assumed innocent. It's kinda the same thing with being able to pull animals into a hive village. You'd think eventually the hive would catch on that you're using them, but the AI isn't bright enough to do anything about that, so I avoid abusing stuff like that.

Hey, I know this thread is a bit old, but it seems to be still a thing. Ofcourse just talking about vanilla without mods regarding farming and such.

Currently I am able to farm hundreds of riceweeds with just a single farmer character living in a cheap shak in a swamp village with a few riceweed fields. There are some villagers and a stable guard unit from the swamp faction (or at least one of the swamp factions, differs between villages) who are able to fend of attacking packs of blood spiders and groups of red saber guys.

-> It really feels a bit "strange", especially because I have zero reason to build up my own outpost to build some farms...that single farmer piles up several hundred riceweed within 3-4 days...

-> This also works for the hemp fields in the swamp, where 1 farmer can produce dozens and hundreds of fabric without any need to fight or such (except sometimes healing some guards or run into my house when many spiders attack at once^^)...

-> On the other hand.... In my honest opinion using this style of getting food/ressources is not much more "cheesy" than pulling animals into city/village guards, let them do the work and just loot whats left^^

They will either

a) patrol right in
b) chase someone in
c) path in to eat someone who got downed by a bandit/ninja/you then aggro on mass

They will show up.
