Sooo.. What the hell am I supposed to do?
I get that its a "entertain yourself" - because the devs couldnt be bothered to do it for you kind of game. But Im already overwhelmed, I just started and am in some empty town with nothing but patrolling NPC's that cant be interacted with. Eventually left and have been wandering a desolate ugly textured wasteland in search of... something? Im not quite sure really.

Any tips for someone new to the game? The guides Ive looked at failed to help with the basics.

This game may not B 4 U. This game is 4 vetran gamers of games with heavy survival elements and setting up ur own goals. It is kind of overwhelming yes and even i a vet found it very alien but very refreshing.

Ok so this game will not hold ur hand or even tell U what 2 do much (but thats the game), U need to set ur own goals and start something and i know ur use to a checklist or mission list ETC... U simply need to make ur own.

Start with the basics always the basics. What do U need: 1-a food source 2-a trade(how u make money) 3-better equipment/base of operation/people/training

Understand that U are not powerful and suck major brownhole when you start. I've played with 1 of the hardest beginings the rock bottom, i had to become a massive scavanger leech, watching battles and harvesting the leftovers, attacking afterbattle survivors 2 train my people 2 become stronger, capturing whoever was knocked out and selling them into slavery, robbing nobles from different towns and selling there stuff 2 hivers, eventually having the money to expande my assets, then doing it again and again till i had the money and manpower 2 start my own base. I could go on....

The problem with this game and new players most the time is that they are not told what they should do and U are not used 2 it ,combined with absolute brutal nature of this game basically raw realism.....U and ur people are just like everybody else in this world and have the same chance to die or 2 not.

If i had any real advice i suggest:
Major patience
Understand that military power is realistic......Numbers/equipment/training/food supply
Even badasses can fail....it goes both ways thou
U begin 2 understand why there are raiders/thugs/bandits as ur probably going to be one 4 the longest time at the begining
Almost anything goes....going to war with a faction....making peace with a faction....a farming community...a raiding community.....Sacking towns.....haveing ur town/base sacked....becoming a bounty hunter...becoming a farmer...becoming a slave....becoming a national power....etc

You must have a goal in your mind, what do you want to achieve at the end of the game ? A kingdom, being rich, top tier assassin or .... ? There are a lot of exploring to do which is only possible when you have strong characters to endure the challenges

essentially what these guys said OR you just be curious, wander around and your own quests will eventually pop up but keep these 3 things in mind: PATIENCE, YOU ARE ALWAYS STRONGER IN NUMBERS, IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, DONT DO IT, FOR GOD'S SAKE DONT DO IT! (you see that sweet nice weapon on a dead guy but there is a patrol nearby, DONT DO IT! and that kind of stuff :)
