Kenshi
Bought a prosthetic arm...and it's worse than no arm?
Need a little help understanding how this works as I'm just starting out. Awesome game so far.

One of my squad paid an arm for attempted burglary in Squin and I just realised the shoddy economy arm I bought her actually makes her worse at everything?

With no prosthetic installed it displays a -33% penalty to Crossbows and Dexterity titled 'Robotics' which I'm assuming is supposed to be the missing arm penalty. Strength shows two penalties, a -33% from Robotics and another -33% 'Missing arm penalty'. However only one -33% penalty is actually applied looking at the stats.

When I equip the arm my Dexterity then has a -54% 'Robotics' penalty and Crossbows has -56%. The arm description says it's supposed to be -31% and -33% respectively. Strength has a -46% 'Robotics' penalty and the same -33% 'Missing arm penalty' from before. Again only the -46% is actually applied. But the arm is only supposed to have a -19% Strength penalty.

So how's this supposed to work? Bugs? A tremendously ♥♥♥♥♥♥ prosthetic arm?

There are better arms in the game, just have to craft them or come across them,

Pretty sure what you are using is economy arm from the hivers. The game tells you that hivers sell those cheap things if you are "desperate" enough. There are insanely better robotic arms out there.
EDIT: even if it's a bad arm you need 2 to be able to carry people and big weapons

Most arms are garbage on purpose, as its main purpose is to allow characters to walk again or swing weapons using two hands. The dev didn't want everyone to go out and try to augment themselves as if Kenshi is Dues Ex. Lol.

If you're lucky and find some masterwork quality then it is a huge improvement.

Yeah I realize it's a bad prosthetic arm, but I was trying to understand if this was a bug or if there's some calculation happening here that I'm not aware of. Basically none of the displayed penalties are applied correctly, like the missing arm penalty is being attributed as 'Robotics' and then when I equip the arm there's no 'missing arm penalty' to remove so it just ends up being another penalty on top.

Will be interesting to see what the story is with better prosthetics. I'm assuming the bonuses/penalties are good enough to offset whatever's happening here.

EDIT - As suspected, I'm a moron! I was comparing with the game paused. Unpaused the game, correct effects apply and everything's good. It would've bugged the hell out of me if having no arm was actually better. It's bandit huntin' time.

tl;dr - I'm stupid. Move along!

I'm not sure if you're encountering a bug unique to you or if the hiver limbs are just purposely or accidentally implemented without removing the missing limb penalties. Get used to not knowing if something is a bug or a feature in Kenshi, by the way.

I can tell you that when I've put real skeleton limbs on my characters they don't still have a missing arm penalty, only whatever penalties and bonuses the arm displays.

Actually something just occured to me. Sometimes there can be hidden damage applied underneath a newly added robotic limb. I had fogmen eat my arm off so I could replace it once, and after installing the new arm I had to repair it even though no damage was showing. The hidden damage probably also heals over time though

Edit: Oops. You wouldn't expect to need to unpause for that though.

How do you get fogmen to eat your arm?
You're right, they eat the legs first, I was just misremembering. Once you've got two robotic legs though they eat the arms first.

Unless you're asking in general how you make them eat a limb, in which case you just go to a camp and attach yourself to a pole (with some sort of escape plan).

Hah. Prosthetics must be good if people are literally putting themselves on the menu.

It'll all work out then. I bought the budget arm and an adorable bonedog pup for this squaddie while she was locked up. Like a getting out of jail present y'know?

The next day we got jumped by starving bandits and they ate that pup. And my main character and Hobbs slowly bled out in the dirt, but she survived. Game's brutal.

Interestingly enough I did that on a test save to mess around with the benefits of robotics, among other things. I decided they were good but I haven't had the heart to make one of the characters on my main save undergo that.

Some highlights: Masterwork scout legs with stealth apparel lets you run in a full sneak at 45+ mph with good (60+) athletics and stealth. Skeleton arms are great for dex (cut damage and attack speed, very important). And heavy lifter arms are similarly great for a martial artist (damage and attack speed). Also having limbs eaten off gives the fastest toughness exp I've seen.

That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious. Lol. Attach yourself to a pole.

Let me just find two masterwork legs first.

I don't like penalties, I think it's not worth it, I look at arm and leg in game it's mostly penalties with nothing positive, one of my square lost her leg to stupid wild gura who ran faster than my party (only one out of 4 are fastest than gurn but other 3 unable to outrun gura)

I had to keep running because every loading map, there is other enemies Holy Nation who hate skeleten, rebel farmers, red sabres, man hunter chase you, you don't had a choice to stand still. even gura got her leg like one hit (there was 9 gurn bit her leg and she lost her leg less than second with no chance healing, and I can't find her missing leg to put back (is that work with spil med, I did had spili med but that wasn't working get restore her leg back, not one normal healing aid?

( I did try turn back and run closest to town for safety but failed due gurn is way faster) Then there Cannibals that want to eat her, and my party had to drop her to outrun them because carry her hurt speed. Two time, two kind of Cannibals take her again and again but thankful they didn't eat her at a time and I use fastest guy to be bail to get all thme follow him, then skeleten sneaking and unlock her and carry her again and again to get away from Cannibal and enemies, but again and again there is other enemies saw before I saw enemies, had to drop her way too many time, I was like did she not alreay lost her leg, but no, still there is too many enemies with little friendly in those area.

I want her back to her full human form, it's just make me bad leadership, she is "Red" who stole money from us, I stop her and said gave money back but she won't and got to eat to alive, but I show compassion and welcome her (I wasn't looking for anyone but a skeleten because I don't had to worry about feed a food in early of game, I plan to get skeleten to be strong and not worry about food and money before set up outport to get food to feed living like human, but running cross and only end up in short time gurn don't like someone running ( I do not hunt them at all) and cost Red's leg

I don't cheat, I don't use mod, but I do want her to had full human leg,
At this point I'm not sure I start over game because I think "Red" is Unique Recruits, what I undertsand Unique Recruits lost forever even import the game, I think. All of my time and investments had been lost again and again already.
I'm not sure what to do, carry her all the time, I do not want dismiss her and be mean to her, but add her a machines? No thank, I wonder if I can find human leg and fix her up in this game?

because it's had no penalties, I did seached missing leg with trying Alt where she got her leg lost, but I can't find and I do not had a power to kill gurn (early of game but it's been spent long time to get start up), it's long gone now.

So in Kenshi you can craft a robotic arm but not a gun, not even a scrap black powder gun. That makes no sense. Thank god for mods.
