XP Modifiers
I know the game already indicates how to improve stats like attributes and skills but I was wondering if there are hidden xp modifiers such as if you more dexterity experience if equip dexterity reducing equipment and such.

There is a big malus if you´re 25 points above the skill(!not attribute!)-level of your opponend regarding melee attack/defense (there´s a mod to disable that or increase the difference to 50). And some sort of bonus if you´re fighting stonger opponents. Generally speaking you just have to grind (carry heavy loads for strengh or wield a high weight blunt weapon, use a high cutting damage weapon/use crossbows for dex) or help yourself with mods (like better training benches or strengh through mining). Armor mali do increase xp a bit, but not by much. Not really worth the risk tbh.

Building a small base/buying a house and capture bandits/high skill enemies to train with, is the fastest hands-on approach for dex, and using a well with water storage to create a job with auto-hauling is the best way to train strength.

.. while carrying a dead bandit or a beak thing or whatever...

Ah I see. So there is a xp thing where you get more xp if lets say your opponent has better attack than you and you can wear stat reducing equipment to get the bonus again if you are getting stronger, am I understanding this correct?

I have tried the grindy way of increasing the attributes and while they are easy and effective it is also boring so I am looking for a more "organic" way to level up my stats such as equiping a heavy weapon to level up my strength, carrying bounties/slaves while encumbered and using a wakizashi for dex training.

What I do not get is the strength thing. According to the wiki, I have to have equip a heavy weapon with the weight equal to my strength + 20. Is this just a whole number or 20% and is the modifier that I get substantial?

I have yet to find a weapon that meets this statistic since I leveled up my strength up to 30 and I would need a heavy weapon that weighs 50+.

But generally speaking - yes. If you use equipment that reduces your stats you will come closer to weaker enemies stats reducing the xp gain malus.

With the strenght at 30 you can use weapons that weight 15 efficiently. Dont forget that you lose stats when wounded.

My advice for an organic approach would be using heavier armor once you get weightless with you stuff. Switch to full medium and then to heavy with chain shirt.

When you reach 50+ dex using toppers/katanas switch for heavier weapons like hackers, planks or fragment axes.

Or as an alternative let everyone who gets weightless carry 1-2 generator cores. They are small and weight 20 each.

Thanks for the advice. Will try to do that once I am done with my dex training.

I have another question, does more cutting damage equate to more experience?

It does not, only the quantity of hits. So train with a weak weapon against high armor enemies to stretch the battle. Wakizashi are decent, or sabers for your weaker dudes to block as many attacks as possible. Blocked attacks also give xp by the way.

It looks like I was already doing it right. Thanks for the replies xD

Nope. You can easily "see" the XP gain if you take a noob character with drifter outfit and any saber and let him block a beak thing. Every blocked hit will give you something like 5% defense XP while any failed block will give you about 25-30%.

Now when you just block and keep fast forwarding you will realize that with every level of melee defense the percentage will drop. When you get to the 50s even 10 blocked beak thing hits will not give you more than 1% all together.

Damage types affect the stat gains. 100% cutting like katana will give 100% dex. If you mix blunt in like with sabers you will also get some strenght. Now when you go 50/50 or more blunt you will gain more strenghts and less dex from that weapon. Plank is a good example.

But xompared to just putting on weight and running around training str with equipment is a tedious way. I am doing this myself so.. Day 192 and still below 40 str.....

"Pro tip": a soldierbot/weak thrall is ideal to train. Can be repaired very fast and gets also skill increase through beating/fighting your guys. Crab armor is decent to keep him and yourself standing as long as possible
