Where to get ancient science books and engineering research?
Is there any easier way to get one or two of these books earlier in the game? Or do you have to have a high level squad to raid ruins and lost libraries to get them?

I’ve heard they are sometimes sold in stores? Any places around to find them without having to raid ruins?

World's End may sell a couple, but the best place to find ANYTHING rare or of high quality is always Scrap House.

You can easily google both these locations so get to it! :D

The store at Flats Lagoon sells engineering books and sometimes the science books. If you haven't been there yet, it's called strange city.

huh? Are they suppose to be hard to find? I have stolen over 100 of them from a few stores in UC territory over the last 20 hours of my game.

Not so much hard, as harder than the research books.

edit; As well as having a very high price. Engeneering book is 5000c.

Huh It sounds like I got lucky... my two person squad stumbled early in the game into a ruined library in the swamp, ungarded, Bunch of ancient scince books and maps of all kinds

Unguarded ruined library? I didn’t know that was possible. I’ll have to check it out.

I have been by there. It shows up on my map now, I just haven’t stopped in. I will check them and see. Thanks!

Bring your best troops, a supply of food and bandages, maybe some bedrolls and explore old ruins and ancient libraries, workshops, etc. you can often find some pretty valuable things inside, including AI cores, engineering, and ancient books.

These goods don't come cheap or fast though, so be prepared for trips through pretty dangerous territory if you're heading north, south, or west. Keep an eye out for maps to new locations to explore, and be ready for some pretty nasty fights. The trip home is almost always a lot more deadly than the trip out.

You don't need a squat to get that stuff out of ruins, just one capable thief.

Yup. It wasn't until late game that i read the map items properly and realised "engineering research" wasnt just some vague fluff description but an actual item.

Now when i need to tech up, i open up a map and that usually sets me off on a day long (IRL) adventure

One in the swamps is unguarded, although there's plenty of danger all around, so I guess the swamp could be considered the guard. Other places with stuff like blood spiders can get wiped out by other threats that pass on by.

If the RNGods are on your side, you may stumble upon them in stores. If not, opt to go tech hunting.

This. I used to solo tech hunting in my early game. If you're lucky, you can just sneak past the spiders if they're positioned ideally. If not, a tip is to distract the spiders and lure them out, then sneak back in the building. Since they're pretty slow and they give up chasing halfway.

I switched to squad hunting though since it felt boring soloing all the time. If you do go tech hunting with the squad, I second this advice:

Thanks for all the great tips! I’m implementing some of them now! I did go to the scrap house and buy a few things I needed, since I have tons of money, and plenty of income.

Plus I have a skeleton to avoid the endless acid rain! Shouldn’t that biome be flooded by now??

I will try sneaking into ruins too. Am building up an army that should be capable of going into any ruins soon.

I just needed a couple things to research some new technologies for now. I will have to raid some ruins later on though.

A good tactic I recently discovered for dealing with ruins: lure out the security spiders one at the time, then place two crossbowmen at either side of it and start shooting, back up when necessary.

I just went exploring for these, went from Squin up to Mongrel, then North into the floodlands. By the time I'd gotten to Burns Tower I had 29 Ancient Books in my BP. No Engineering though but I'm heading West to an ancient workshop I know then up to Leviathan Coast before I head back to Squin so will hopefully have grabbed a few more Ancient & some Engineering by the time I return.

Looking forward to killing all the cannibals in the area with my new squad comprised of my 2 starting slaves, free unique recruits, plus the dozen+ slaves I've freed so far ;o))

Oh...and of course Beep who just joined my party with Crumble & Shryke ;o)))

....beep
