Unique Recruit named Masaru?

When I first started playing Kenshi I was wandering aimlessly when I entered the south west area of Skinner's Roam. I encountered a Shek named Masaru standing in the middle of nowhere. He had high level skills 50s to 60s in combat and standard to high quality gear. Masaru was standing next to an unconscious named npc who was heavily injured but bandaged. I talked to Masaru and he had some story that I can't recall. He also joined me for free which was a godsend for my low level party. Fast forward about 20 hours of gameplay and I have now started a new game. I went to recruit Masaru again but he wasn't where I found him before. I also found no mention of Masaru in the Wikia or in any mods? Does anyone know how I encountered Masaru or has anyone met anyone similar?

Masaru and Fuu are mentioned in an old steam thread as beeing non unique, flavored recruitable characters without much more info. There is also a masaru working as a freelancer for lo fi, so maybe that character is some kind of easter egg? We'll propably never know.

That would be a cool Easter egg! In hindsight I wish I had paid more attention to Masaru's background, but at the time (I had only played a couple hours) I thought recruits like him we're the norm . Thank you for your reply
